this is one of my favorite auto body/fiberglass tricks... its a bit messy but works great!
You hate putting body filler on only to have to sand it down carefully to remove all the ridges and divots you created by spreading it?
Here is my solution, I call it the "milkshake" as it looks like a strawberry milkshake. Basically what you do is mix about 50/50 body filler and fiberglass resin till it becomes about as thick as a milkshake, add the respective hardeners, and brush it on. It self levels, is easy to sand, and wont crack if it gets thicker than 1/4" like regular filler..

As I was attending to some sanding under the hood I noticed a bolt that was broken off in the radiator core support i had overlooked. I carefully built up strong tack welds on the bolt till it was about flush with the surface. Placed a washer around it and a nut on top of that. Then I welded the bolt to the nut and built as much weld on the top of it all to get the bolt as hot as possible. Then I walked away and let it cool down till it was cold to the touch. It almost turned out by hand...

I was able to get alot of sanding/filling/more sanding and priming done on the quarter panel and the engine compartment!

Rear quarter is comming along very well IMO!

going to town on the ek  very niCE.gracias for the filler/resin "milkshake" trick! this method seema like it would work good for the angles(door jams, window surrounds, etc)and should help me out with the "smoothing" of my drip rails on my 87 elco that need attention.

Yes sir! Gotta hit it hard before the snow blows!!
Yeah, that milkshake is like a poor mans jell-coat. I use it in fiberglass fabrication alot! And you are definetly correct, it saves your *ss in door jambs, window surrounds ect ect...

Well I finally decided on a color;
Honda green tea metallic

A pint of pant didnt get me too far but it was enough to let me know its definetly the right color for me...

Tomorrow is payday so I will hit up the home improvement store for some better garage lights and load up on color and clear coat!

I wasnt happy with the lighting situation in the garage when I was trying to do the initial round of painting so I started the day by picking up and hanging a lot of flourcent lights

and blacking out the windows in the garage with plastidip (mixed types of light make it very difficult to see paint being applied

It was a much needed change and I am very happy with the paint I got laid down today!

looking great!!! i had a 62 SS impala, and a 85 fleetwood brougham with a simular color(it was a 70's mercedes code, forgot the actual name)laid down better than a $5 fairfax "lady of the night" keep the progress coming!

think they used to call it "metallic pea!"
Well, a whole lot of work today for not much to show.
Got the hood and trunk stripped down, scuffed up, 2 coats of primer inside and out, paint and clear on the undersides. I found a d16z6 intake, I took that and the valve cover cleaned em, primed em and painted them body color just for giggles. Then I cleaned primed and painted the engine and trans (4 coats of high temp ford grey, 2 coats of duplacolor graphite metallic and the same clear used on the body. I made sure to use some adhesion promoter on the timing cover plastics. )
ah also got the front suspension and cross member reshot as they got primer on them...

It's all really comming together and I couldn't be more proud!

So yeah, got the hood and trunk mounted, aligned, front suspension mounted, and got the lot of random brackets and such painted.
Also mocked up the engine... Yeah, I admit its a little rice, but I dig it and I think it will look killer inside that smoothed out compartment!
