BUILD THREAD Tomeal's Elky Build

Didn't get much done on the car this week. Gathered supplies to do the HVAC box. Got consumed figuring out a new rear end. Did pick up an 01 mustang 8.8 with 3.27 gears. I think that should play nice with the 6l90e.

I want to work on the box so that when I open the chassis paint to do the cross member and body I can put the HVAC box in at the same time. I hope to work on that this weekend.

I had them wrote down somewhere. Can't find them at the moment, might be in the garage.

My research showed that a 3.08 ish would make a very gas friendly ride, just lacking a little in grunt. The 3.73 was on the steep end. I was looking at 3.27 and 3.55. the 3.27 pretty much fell in my lap.

Gear Ratios
First: 4.030
Second: 2.360
Third: 1.530
Fourth: 1.150
Fifth: 0.850
Sixth: 0.670
Reverse: 3.060

With a small tire - 26”, that will work fabulous imo.

And it wouldn’t be awful with a 25 or 27 either. Great grab imo.

That first gear is tall. It'll be fine but with that multiplication first gear is going to be very short. Nothing a little programming won't fix though.

Set my heater box up and was looking at where the hole was. I have an A/C box that I thought wouldn't fit. After comparing the two, I think the ac box will fit with less work that the heat box.

The ac box has the square ish corner that is farther over. The heat box has a flatter angle that sits closer to the engine.

I think I'm going to use the ac box.

Now the question, everything I've read says that my gen 4 engine and e38 ecu is unable to control the air conditioning in a swap.

Is that correct? Is there a workaround that I've not found yet?

Pulled my fabbed up cross member and got it painted. While it was drying and the transmission was up in the air I figured I would test fit the ac box. Put the cross member back in, dropped the transmission down. I got a hair over 3/8 of space. I think that should be enough not to hit.

Pulled the rear out to prep for the 8.8 to go in. Waiting for shipment on the control arms. Going to pick up two crown Vic black steel rims to use as rollers for now.

Wanted to chassis paint the underside. The fvcking lid won't come off.

I'll fight that battle another day!

Pulled the cover off the 8.8 and it looks good.

It's nice to feel like some progress forward was made.

At least you had a Yuengling to ease your pain.

Yikes, is that a lot of ring gear!
