A retard box, electronic ignition, combo of both or what? Can you explain how it works?

If you can't then fine - I'll chock it up to GM elf and magic 🙂

They called it the "TCC" or turbo control center. The system used engine knock sensors to detect pre-ignition in order to retard ignition timing of the HEI distributor. Didn't have all the computers built into the kick panel doing all that so they had this instead

The original retard controller for the original knock sensor, developed expressly to get Buick Turbos in dealer showrooms for 1978. Very primitive. There was basically no super unleaded gas. Stomp on it, and it slows down. Like, soooo GM.

That seems about right and would explain the 1/4 mile times. What was the best fuel available back then?

Can we get back on topic? James do you have it running yet? Jk Front end repair looks good.
Not yet Zach. I'm going to take a good look at it this weekend IF this Hurricane stays far enough away, that we don't get too much rain.

I guess I should make a build thread on this car. I need to copy & paste some of the pertinent information from this thread, to a new one. Paul ( PBGbodyfan ) has helped me again. He went and looked at a set of original turbine wheels just like the ones that came on this car. He bought them for me, and I sent him the money. He's going to ship them from Wisconsin to Texas. I now have (8) wheels, and (8) center caps to choose from. I'll obviously use the best (4) of each on the car. Can we say "Best Forum Ever" again?? I think we can!! Thank you Paul!!

View attachment 162196James , I found the Q jet carb for the TC. How is the restoration going? Did you get it running ?
Hey Bill, that's awesome! I would love to have it. The parts that I were given ( and I am so thankful to Zach ) were from a Monte Carlo. It would be great to have the original numbers matching carb. I have not gotten it running yet... I was able to get another set of wheels, and cleaned up the best (5) out of (8), so I could have a matching spare. I polished the center caps the best I could. I got another gauge cluster from a turbo car, that way I can use the best parts, and best lens. I bought a nice tail light off Ebay, and have rounded up some nice interior plastic trim. As you could imagine, due to COVID, I have had to make an appointment at the DMV to try and get a title in my name. The 1st appointment I could get is December 31... If I can get that sorted out, I'll put some money into new carpet, seat covers, and tires. I'll message you about the carb, EGR valve, and spare keys. Nice to hear from you.

Once I paint the black, and polish the lens, It should look really nice.
