Vortec 5.7 + 4L60E Swap

any suggestion on a transmission x-member I can fab one no problem but that will take me too long as I only can have the shop on weekends. I'm assuming anything that would work with a 700-r4 will work with a 4l60e but I don't know the best places to look.
Will prolly look at getting Long Tube headers sometime after the swap so let's keep those in mind.

Got what I think is a steal on the setup. A complete 97 tahoe 2wd with 272k - deer damaged front end for 700 bones and then I drove it 130 miles home!! Interior could use about 50 lbs of oxyclean but the leather is good. The transmission only has 90k on it never abused and the engine I don't know but it holds 45psi oil pressure at 75mph and no smoke so it can't be original. Has everything else necessary for the swap computer, cruise, engine wiring, transmission wiring, interior wiring, gauges, fuel pump, driveshaft yoke, O2 sensors, cats (haha), engine accessories, and a good serp belt even. 😀

I need to find a write up on how to change the gauges over to the tahoe ones, as well as the fatty tailights.

as for a crossmember look up iceman, over on the malubiracing forums or look him up under his ebay name of pitqueen

pulled the assembly out of the donor tonight and was impressed at how those tahoes "snap" together with all the fancy clips. It was actually easier to leave the harness attached to the engine and pull everything off of the body.

I'll do some searching but I assume the summit racing long tube headers SUM G9001 will work on a g-body and a tube cross member with some custom clearance work?
The engine wasn't throwing any codes before so it will prolly get the cats and rear O2s installed because they are in surprisingly good shape (and the exhaust will have that fuel injected smell). This makes me need long tubes now.

Will the serp system work? I've heard the power steering pulley hits the gear box.

Shifter: I have a column shift and would like to keep it there anybody do this?

you wouldn't happen to have the rest of the tahoe would you? i need a few small parts for mine

Right now I'm cannibalizing as much of the Tahoe as I can to make this swap go smoothly (along with the taillights 😀 ). Most of the interior will go towards my K5 project if it measures out to fit. If you need window glass, rear hatch/gate, wheels, any doors (PW/PL Maroon exterior), frame, hood, under hood canisters... let me know

yep you may have to play with the linkage but the stock gbody linkage should work it did on my 700r4.

So, I'll take the little shifter arm on the transmission, that's made for the cable, off and steal the cam off of my metric 200 or other 700r4. Not a problem if it's actually that easy (crosses fingers).

Two more yes or no ??'s
Is this going to fly with LT headers?
Is there a cable style setup available for column shift?

I'm sure I will need to shorten my driveshaft. About how much am I taking out of it?
I also plan on using the Tahoe's DS Yoke

Take 3" off the DS and it will work, I've done 6 swaps involving 4l60e transmission's.
As for the 02's, like I said, a $150 tune will cure those problems.

I have the 5.7 vortec in my 79 el camino. But I have my th350 behind it. Also mine is carburated. The only flaw with it is when you get up to a high rpm the elctric fuel pump doesnt give it enough gas. Other than that its a great motor. My gas milage is better than my original stock 350 motor. Soon i'll be adding aluminum heads and a bigger cam and headmen shorty headers. Hopefully it will give me over 350 hp.

FYI.......... Yes the serp system works perfect. One issue will be the AC compressor. If youre not running ac then the compressor will fit perfect. If you plan on running ac then youll need the relocator kit to move the compressor to the side. And the power steering pump cleared the gear box. The only issue with that I had to have the high pressure hose made because the threads was different.

Awesome!! Glad to hear that. I have the tool to make the GM o-ring fitting if i need to  I will look at switching out the EVO valve with the standard double flare from my old pump just to try and make life easy.

As far as the AC is concerned the compressor is much smaller than the normal ones that I've seen on other vortec motors. My parents have a 97 suburban w/rear AC and that compressor is much bigger than the one this tahoe has. Maybe I got really lucky and it will fit under the hood.

I'm going to try and hook up the cats to the collectors on my new headers and run the dual O2's because the system was working very well before I pulled the motor. I want to hit my goal of making it work the way it was designed to work in the elco first ...and then go from there.
