What about a new engine? Ive heard tell that using synthetic oils in new engines can create ring sealing issues... opinions?
ALOT OF THE NEW GM CARS AND OLDER ONES AS FAR AS THAT GOES COME FROM THE FACTORY WITH MOBIL 1. CORVETTE, LS3 CAMARO, CTSV. I WOULD THINK IF IT CAUSED A BREAK IN ISSUE GM WOULDN'T DO IT.

true....but my engine was manufactured 42 yrs ago....long before synthetic oils were used in typical cars.... and I want this engine to last...GM wants it to last 5yrs......and fyi...ALL CAPS MEANS YOU ARE YELLING AT US....

currently running TORCO racing oil. There based out of Rancho in the IE here in Cali. They make oil for military planes, so you know this oil ain't no joke. I got there second best oil @ 15 qt!!! But I paid 10, The other stuff is $23 a qt! Supposed to last a good 10k or more. I honestly can't justify the price but I guess all the magic happens where I can't see and hear! They over treat there oil with additives that protect the motor, not the catalytic converter. The big brands don't treat there oil for the motor they treat it for for the catalytic converter and emissions due to government regulations.

My 350 does run smoother with mobile 1 and lucas synthetic oil stabilizer.. Thats enough swyping (typing) on my phone.. lol

one big reason I use AMSOil is for the zinc... but Also because it is rated to 25,000kms... And since the car is only driven in the summer months, the oil is only changed once a year.

mobile 1 still has zinc in it as well. I use amsoil and it is rated for 25,000 but that's as long as you use the amsoil oil filter that's rated for 25,000

I sat in a seminar from GM a few months ago on the new Duramax, about halfway through the topic kinda changed to oil and GM recommends Mobil 1 full synthetic for everything, in fact a lot of new cars are coming with Mobil 1 0w30 and a standard 7500 mile change intervals. I switched to Mobil 1 in my truck and noticed the cold start lifter tick went away, currently I run Pennzoil 10w30 in the big block with a fram and the same in the 307.

I wonder if GM is still using flat tappet cams in any of their production engines........
