browsing facebook marketplace and saw an SS nose for sale...went and met the guy and saw he had a T-top SS in his garage, building an LS motor. We talked for a good 30 minutes about the current level of disgust we have for all of the Dodge Chargers in Metro Detroit right now and we vowed to reclaim our streets lol. Anyway, bought the nose for $150...and I'm not sure why. I already have one, but I figured having a spare can't be so bad....
I probably should create a project post for my Cutlass. I just work on computers 40 hours a week for my job and sometimes it is hard to get on the computer for other stuff. Anyway...
I got the steering linkage replaced completely along with a quick ratio 850 steering box, That replaced the 40 year old linkage and the leaking 650 steering box. What a difference. I also replaced the small sway bar with the F41 larger sway bar (Thanks to Timo) and Kirban front brace. It is like a completely different car. Downside to this it cost me $1100 in labor😒
I also replaced the coolant overflow tank with a new one from Mike's Montes. Not an exact match. The Olds one had a nub on the right side where you would zip tie the heater hose. But much cleaner. It never ends because I need to clean up the rust on the brackets and frame after all this work.
went junk yarding today. i've been looking off and on for a 4l60e for my "someday" ls swap. i originally was going t56 for my tribute car. tribute car is of a 79 cutlass calais similar to what i built when i was dating my wife. several years ago i picked up an L33, 5.3l h.o. eng, have purchased the holley stuff, got the posi rear and bigger brakes. but then my wife suggested an automatic for the trans. now i know what your thinking, typical woman. not this this woman, she grew up driving manuals, and is the one who got me interested in them. but for this car she wants an auto. yes dear.
fast forward to last night, checking the inventory of some u-pull yards, found a fresh '05 3500 van. so i swung in this morning and nabbed a 4l80e trans. also grabbed the ecm, w/p and fan, alt and p/s pump. while i was taking a break and admiring my find, i realized the torque converter sat fairly deep in the bell housing. that got me wondering, so looked at the flywheel and discovered i needed it and the spacer to make it all work. so i grabbed them and the the starter too.
is there anything else i should grab?
