Bought me a steering wheel from an 85-91 Grand Am for my Bonneville. While I do like the 3 spoke wheel it has now, it holds in heat and cold like no other and is quite unpleasant to hold onto until it acclimates when the weather is super hot or cold out. This wheel has the closed cell foam outer like newer steering wheels and gives a few more places to put your hands.

More interestingly, this wheel came with what looks like a rather heavy weight. It is lead and weighs about 5 pounds or so. I am guessing that it was used to add a little bit of return-to-center that early rack and pinion boxes didn't naturally have. Weird, and won't be going on my car, but definitely interesting.

Man, I wish there were junkyards around here that had cool stuff. Last I went several years ago and they had a couple of shells of picked clean G-bodies with absolutely nothing I could use. It's not worth it to me anymore. I used to make it a destination on my days off from work. Need a weird bracket? No problemo. I know where one is. Morning trip to the 'yard, and bingo. Score. Now...even if you do find anything, they think it's made out of gold.

Finally got some spokes and vogues. Been considering it for a few years now on different cars of mines.

Put my new steering wheel on today and while it definitely feels different I think I am going to like it. The light gray doesn't look too out of place and since the car the wheel came from had a Saginaw column in it, it fits like it belongs there.

In the longer term, this wheel opens up the option of period-ish correct Pontiac steering wheel controls so I don't have to constantly keep track of my head unit's tiny little remote.

So sacrificial column is in the future to see if the needed electrical will fit our columns?

Kind of. I will have to swap in an upper column out of a 90's Grand Prix or a Pre-VATS Cadillac to gain the needed clock spring and extended steering shaft. Then just run the wires to an adapter box or straight to a remote-capable Delco radio (which I already have on the shelf). Apparently this is not an uncommon swap in the Fiero world, so I won't be blazing a new trail or anything.

I already have an adapter box from my old ZJ that will work, but I would honestly rather be set on fire than disassemble that steering column again after changing that wiper switch for the 3rd time. I will probably still do it, but it won't be right now.

It would be a super neat option to have though.

I put a new p/s pump on last week after trying to seal it for a few days.
It wasn't that bad of a job. It went on easier than taking off. Got a loaner tool to swap out the pulley.
I can remember when you could carry in your old pump and they would change your pulley on the counter.
Of course I can also remember at the gas station when they would check your oil, wash your windshield and air up your tires.
Gas was 29 cents a a gallon for regular. Once in a while a gas war would bring down the price to $.19cents. $3.00 an hour was top pay.
Yes I'm older than dirt.

Don't feel bad, I can remember when I got a 'raise' when the increased minimum wage stuff rolled into effect for my job as a kid. There was a big to-do because higher level employees, well, they didn't get raises too. It was just those of us who were below the 'new minimum' and it was quite a hike at the time.

I actually found a box that had a couple of old pay stubs from 4 decades ago. It's amazing how little the paychecks were even with overtime. Then again, I think about what I could buy for the money too.

I think I'd rather go back than now.
