What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2020]

Today I installed the new Water Pump, The Chilton's Repair Manual made it look and sound so easy, in another thread I had to ask how to get loose the other Drive Belt that goes around the Steering pump, Crank and Fan. I found out real quick how much I have had to take off just to get to the water pump, got Sunburned doing it to. While in the process of putting it all back together I realize that this Water Pump didn't come with two parts one of which I had to take off the old Water Pump some sort of small metal threaded pipe that a hose connects to from the top, the other is the four Post's/Threaded Studs for fastening up the Fan. I used allot of penetrating Oil on the old Pump and tried pounding them out, but to no avail. I am going to have to go to the Auto Parts store Tomorrow after work and pick them up or order them if they are not in stock.

Right now I am very Ticked, This being a direct AcDelco replacement part I assumed that everything would come with the replacement part (In this Instance at least). From here on out I am going to have look carefully at what I am buying on Rock Auto. After about 5 hours of work I am very disappointed. I even got my Dimmer Switch in today too and now I can't even put that in. . I guess I am going to have to wait for the Gasket Sealer I used to Dry thoroughly before putting in Antifreeze.

I just happened to look at the studs on my water pump today. If I’m not mistaken, those are threaded in. What I’d do is take two of the nuts you took off from taking off the fan clutch and put one, then a second on a stud. Take a wrench and hold clockwise pressure to the second bolt you put on while running the first bolt you put on counterclockwise with a second wrench. Should walk the stud out. Maybe hit them with some PB Blaster or WD40 before hand. I know that’s probably not the best description but I hope it helps.

Well since I was going to update, I'll just reply here. After taking a brake for an hour I went back out side where I had the old pump sitting, and at least three of the stud's came off with my fingers, the other one needed coaxing with the Needle Vice grip type tool, but they are all out and I have them all on the New Pump as well I quickly put the belts back in place after installing the fan. . .

I just should've thought let the Penetrating Fluid I put on it do it's job. And of course it did. Whew!😊 Now I don't have to purchase new ones.20200611_204830[1].jpg

Shroud goes back on tomorrow, along with new Antifreeze/Water. And finally I will be able to put in the new Dimmer Switch. . .

Never assume a part comes with anything attached to it. now that's it's warm outside, 24 hours will be long enough to let the rtv cure. go back and snug the bolts and it'll be good.
