finally sprayed my bumper and filler.about time. DSCF3910.JPGDSCF3912.JPGDSCF3935.JPGDSCF3914.JPGended up dusting some pearl on a few spots.it's small enough that you'll only see it when the sun hits it.

Removed water pump, power steering pump, & booster M/C. Painted and transfered hardware. Installed all.

Will put fluids in tommorow and check for leaks!

Today I dug the.020 400sbc out of storage
When I was assembling it one of the head bolts pulled the threads out of the deck ( mother trucker) so 17 years back had a 355 do the same thing
So off to the Bridgeport I go to make a tool because I totally messed the hole up in the 355 and had a shop do the repair after I pulled the motor and disassembled it
First hole pilots the tap
Second hole pilots the drill bit
The slot makes it universal to hit any hole
That’s what she said

Discovered that the Z-Bar that I had installed in my Monte did not allow the lower clutch rod to line up with the throw out arm. Pulled the whole mess apart and grabbed another one from the bin and compared them. First one was supposed to be new but think it might be A-Body and just different enough to not fall in line as it ought to. Second (third and fourth) all came out of G-Body Malibus and should work. May still have to apply some arm strong to the lower arm on the Z to tweak it into correct alignment but that is for tomorrow.

I'm pulling the timing chain and gears out of my 4-4-2's 307. All my research led me to fear a nylon coated cam gear, which I saw in another post had exploded on an '84 Hurst/Olds causing massive damage.

Thursday I got into the timing case and found a very loose chain, I guesstimate over 3/4" of slack. Luckily the chain hadn't skipped any teeth, and even better was all of the teeth on the 120,000 mile cam gear were intact.

Now cleaning engine compartment and frame elements that are more easily accessible with the front of the engine and accessories out of the way.

It will definitely be back together for participation in the Oldsmar Days in late March.

What chain are you replacing it with?

A timing set from Cloyes, regular chain, not double roller.
