Sewed up the Monte's torn pre-filter sock. Who knew Home Economics and being in the Army would be so beneficial to working on cars?

Wondering to myself... what is this secondary air cleaner looking device inside the housing? Anyone have any thoughts on maintenance it might need? I can't find anything in the FSM, which doesn't cover 9C1 versions.

If I'm not mistaken its filled with charcoal and absorbs fuel vapors that escape from the carb to be burned when the car is started. Sorta like a secondary charcoal canister.

Agreed. It's part of the evapoative emissions system. I don't know how you could clean it. The one in my housing was in bad shape so I removed it.

Just like the charcoal canister on the fender I don't think it requires any maintenance. It just absorbs fuel vapors and the engine pulls them out when running.

Got a long lunch today while waiting on a customer to return, so went home and fixed the hp/tq math in HP tuners. Then went for a rip! No, the numbers aren't 100% accurate due to fuel maps needing tweaked more, but I feel there reasonably close and it feels right! For me it's cool to see an approximate value on power until I can dyno it.
