Just got back from taking it on it's 1st cruise this year! Drove around maybe 30 mins and it ran flawless, alot of thumbs up to boot! Pics for proof, and the trunk looks great outside too...
After finishing my temper tantrum, and a bit of whiskey, I may still be able to get these to work... Gonna be difficult and tight quarters but if I can... Hot damn it's gonna be a good day.. now for lots of cardboard, sharpies and more whiskey.2010 volkswagen golf gti. I chose these because all adjustments are manual (forward, back, recline, up, down, and lumbar) and because the seat belt holder on the shoulder is the hidden release to hinge the seat back forward and unlock the track and let the seat slide as far forward as it can until it hits the steering wheel/dash/ or end of the track...
The side to side distance of the original seats brackets center mounting hole to center mounting hole were 14.5".. these tracks are 18.5" center to center ... The problem is then that the outside of the tracks is too wide to fit between the tunnel and the sill. I could raise the seat up to combat some of that, but once I raise it high enough to fit, it's nearly too high (about 2" higher than original buckets). Even with the seats adjusted as low as they will go.
About to throw this thing into the corner of the garage again for several months when I'm done being frustrated by it ... And resealing the motor without pulling pan is fun... If it still leaks... Back to the corner it shall go.
More work on the raised front inner tubs for the Malibu.
Both sides now have their respective tub retained w/hardware. They just have a bolt toward the front (high) & one @ the rear (low) but the hardware allows removing & re-installing them consistently which will allow the next phase of fab work to begin. I'll be making new flanges to replace the portion/s removed for clearing the taller sheet-metal tubs. The end goal is to have the tubs bolt-in using the same flange arrangement as factory just slightly higher w/the tabs in the same general spots/spacing. Technically, only 2 of the tabs for each side are relocated as I'm using the OE placement for the front + lower rear spots. The appearance should hopefully be similar to the plastic tubs & not scream 'trailer fenders'.
With both sides a little further along, I decided to attach them to the core support for some visual brain-storming. My plan for the batt trays looks like it will work as hoped after some mild tweaking on the drivers side. I wanted to keep the battery in the OE PASS side location for simplicity & using a mirror image tray on the driver side provides the mounting spot for the charcoal canister that was bolt-in easy. Progress....
First off.... Thank You!This is so damn cool.
It’s very similar to what I’ve had planned for the front wheel tubs on my Juggernaut project. The only difference with mine is I need to go even higher, all the way up to the flange line with the tubs at the minimum (because AirRide). I was lucky enough to score a set of early GrandAm or Grand Prix factory steel inner tubs a couple years back that I’m going to try and cut/weld/tweak to fit the Cutlass and look stock.
But if that fails to pan out, I’ll be looking at doing something similar to what you’re doing with aftermarket/universal application tubs.
Definitely still watching this with great interest. Keep the updates and the great work coming!
Wish my interior looked that good when I pulled it apart. I might not have thrown the entire thing in the dumpster.View attachment 169675View attachment 169676
