Simple stupidty, cut the arm off the shift tube to make it look like a manual trans column.
Is it ironic that I considered doing that exact same thing to get mine apart?

I believe I have an inner shaft from my old non tilt column laying around somewhere so you’ll have a spare.

Felt too lazy to stop at the gas station, so just put 6 gallons of gas from my back up jugs in the Bonneville. Now I'm out and about christmas shopping with the wife. I'm thankful she loves the Bonneville.

I have a spare '78 column that is prime for donating for when the time comes unless I pull the lock & rehab it.
I shaved the the shift lever nub on my column, used some mesh and JB weld to fill the hole. You'd never know it was a column shift car.
This is a factory floor shift column. At the time I didn't care but now I wish I didn't cut that arm.

Tbh, at first I was gonna put the 8.5 back together sloppy edition and send it, but I opened a can of worms. The pinion is shot, had to have been that way when I got the rearend as there were no metal chunks in the fluid! Gonna make a call tomorrow to get rebuild price. I already have a new R&P I bought years ago, but sh*t I wasn't ready for this.....

If she’s whacking the shaft with a hammer and another piece or wood, you’re into the kind of stuff you’d need to pay a subscription for.
so getting it for free is a good thing?
