What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2022]

You gotta pick your priorities.

We don't have tons of stores nearby... might have 3 locally owned one-off restaurants and a couple fast food places in the county ?or st least within half an hour drive).

But you know what else we don't have? Crime. 'Progressive initiatives'. Dumb fartcan exhaust cars driven recklessly by kids. Heck, we've been from one end of the county to another and not a single dumba$$ public ev charging station. Not sure I've seen one of those POS on the roads here either.

But my subdivision does average one corvette of c6 or later every other driveway. And plenty of pickup trucks.

So question is, do you want city life with the stupidity that goes with it, and arguably certain "conveniences", or, quality of life with less "conveniences" but no city and all the swill that goes with them?
city population of 20-80k, not growing fast, so I don't see all the farmland being gobbled up by "civilization". an hour from the nearest major airport is fine. no major interstates or state highways running thru with 50k cars a day. the nearest state highway to me is about 1.1 miles as the crow flies and I can hear the traffic at night sometimes on a clear night.
don't wanna be anywhere near a tourist trap where every weekend you have out of towners, or be a vacationland during the summer with a mass influx of "privileged elite" with money. we've been researching for the last coupe years and have some good ideas of where we want to be based on the above factors, what our own cost of living would be in retirement, and what type of climate we prefer.

This is the key... research and planning. One pitfall is how areas change, sometimes quickly, saw it happen to some nice farmland we had... 🙁

But, there's sinething to be said for tolerating the tourists for a short season.

Once place we lived in rhode island you had realistically a solid 8 or 9 week tourist season. Lots of traffic. BUT. the businesses knew who locals were. You got extra seating on thee side, specials not on menu.

Another bonus was the taxes and sales those 9 weeks paid? We had high end restaurants all over we never would've had. And in offseason they slashed prices for thr sane fiod/portions

Fire and police equip and coverage? Off the charts.

I finished painting the engine block this evening and painted the new water pump. Changing out all the radiator and heater hoses, anti freeze and fuel pump as the engine hasn't run much in the last 25 years. Also got the driver side header installed while I was out in the garage. The new Thornton shorties sure are compact compared to the long tube Cyclones that I replaced. I'm going to get new spark plugs & ignition wires and get them installed asap. I need the car mobile in the next month so I can move it around some while we do the body work on the rear quarters, roof and door jambs.

Anyone have any suggestions on ignition wire routing and looms for the Olds V8's? I had a Moroso set up on it but I don't care for the look any more. Oh, the T nuts are gone too as are the rusty old Edelbrock valve covers. I figure I'll go with Black 8mm wires and want the engine to look tidy and uncluttered.

interesting, had not thought of it that way.
a desirable touristy area for me would be coastal Maine or Colorado, like Estes Park. but I know that in places like EP it drives up the cost of living

I apologize for the massive number of typos jn that post, between mobile device, medications, and pain distractions i seriously botched that one pretty badly.

Of those two choices you mention though, coastal Maine would be my bet.

We lived in Narragansett RI which had to be just about my favorite place I've been. You cannot replicate the peacefulness of the ocean and exploring the Rocky shore, nor the beauty of large waves dashing the rocks in storms. Friendly locals, great wildlife both for viewing or as a sportsman, awesome seafood right off the boat at anazing prices, and the beauty of the fall in small new england towns. Don't forget fresh maple syrup over snow right out of the evaporator.

But, having lived there about 5 years, I can say you really do get the benefits in the social/arts/entertainment*(include food here) venues of a town the size of the tourist class that hangs around. So for us, we had the options I'd see in the likes of say Atlanta. Except with about 10k people instead of 3m. Our taxes were somewhat lower, but as I said, money for schools, police, etc, never an issue because of what tourists brought.

And, livingstone somewhere like that, you could use the local tourist period to TRA⁶VEL yourself camping, RV, cruise, whatever. You come home, they're gone

(let's see later how bad I butchered this post later, eye got a bit blurry typing so apologgobr,,,)

Mike, have a look at this picture at how I’ve done mine. I’ve experimented with a lot of different combinations over the years and this is the one I feel looks and works the best. Just simple Taylor wire separators with MSD 8.5 mm wires.
Sometimes simple is better.

Catching up on this post as work has kept me busy driving. I've had an odd vibration issue since finishing my car and it's driven me crazy. Only does it above 60mph, but I've always noticed my brakes feel like they're dragging especially at highway speeds when letting off the go pedal. It feels like it wants to dive.
Been doing some thinking and wondering of the aftermarket master/booster are right. After checking specs, the master should be sufficient for my brake setup, but the booster is smaller than stock and the pedal rod seems to be adjusted wrong(my fault).
Soooo this week I got the stocker back out, threw some fresh paint on it and swapped it last night. Been a drought here for 3 weeks, then the day I need to test drive its raining. I'll hold off on claiming its fixed until driving, but just in the garage the brake pedal feels different in a good way. To be continued...

Well, that test drive sucked! It was hard to even press the brake pedal going 20mph or less around my neighborhood. It legit took both feet to stop. Guess I'm putting the other one back on and re evaluating the issue.
i know you had that oversized air brush compressor in he trunk for brake assist before,if you didn't have that hooked up and running it might explain the hard pedal.
