What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2022]

As soon as I got back from Vegas I fixed my tenants shower valve with a replacement. Then went out to the garage with a buddy to tinker on the Monte some more, it is still running but has a ton of interference. So agreed the last ditch effort is to get the Holley Hyperspark since it is giving off a ton to the radios and I am sure the Sniper. Found one on marketplace so hopefully I can hear back from him and save a good chunk of change. Tested the radio I finally found that I have been looking for, it is actually bigger than I wanted but should work nicely since its a double din and won't move as much as long as it fits. Ordered 2 usb's to go with it since that seemed to be the only thing it didn't come with. Guy gave me a bunch of other stuff as well for it; a setup to run multiple cams, noise canceller, and something else. But very relieved to finally be heading down a better path, we were able to get it to run and drive for a bit but since I hadn't eaten all day I called it so we could go get some pizza and a hoagie from a buddies place

Finally Home at last. . . And still a lot to do.

I was going to try to have the Mechanic go through everything he has done to preform the 229 V6 to 305 V8 swap over but, and though the day was warm enough, we had a high wind warning going on today. But just to be sure the car was alright me and the mechanic took her out for a spin around a couple of blocks. Know he was satisfied with it I paid him and drove it home. With no mufflers you better believe that this motor is super loud! Given what I paid to have this done plus 98% of the parts I bought it's going to sit somewhat for a bit.

But still there's a lot more to do. I still have to get an air cleaner for the car, and another part for the Edelbrock Carburetor that adjusts the Kick back cable. Mechanic also suggested that I buy some sort of Spark Plug Wire Kit for 305 Engine with stock exhaust Manifolds. Car definitely needs new brakes, though the ones that are on it do work (Barely) and I did purchase Pads for the front but I will also need new rotors. . . And a whole new stock of front end and wheel and steering parts.

I still have to do the Interior, redo some of the paint on the exterior, and tomorrow while we still have some warm weather left over I will try adjusting the Driver side Door pop out a few small dents with my new tools, and adjust the idle speed down a touch as it a little high. And plus I owe my boss a ride at least for a couple of blocks in the car until I get all that is needed replaced. She helped me with soups and such over this last winter so I can save, she deserves to see what all is done what still needs to be done. Much of which won't happen until next Spring when it's warmer out. But now that I have it running it's the least bit of worry on my mind and I can enjoy it for short trips.

Dropped the starter yesterday because when I went to go put it in the garage (glorified tent), it was making horrendous noise. Wasn’t intermittent but constant. Found that I make the 1 piece drive gear into a 3 piece unit. Oops
Got a new bendix ordered, should be here tomorrow.

I’ve also been chasing down a noise, and I’m throughly stumped at this point. It’s a sort of knocking noise, but it sounds sort of high in the engine, around rocket height, and only happens at idle when it’s warm and idle oil pressure is around 30 psi. The kicker is- it goes away from 1000 rpm. It’s just plain gone. Idle back down to 7-800, and it comes back. Ripped the valve cover off and saw no obvious signs of damage, but I noticed a couple of rockers were a tad loose, I could shake them left and right slightly so I’ll be adjusting those once I get my starter back in.

I’m not using a mechanical fuel pump, but has anyone had an issue similar to this on a roller block 350 SBC?

spent the last couple days working with my state-of-the-art pipe bending machine trying to massage a rusty set of Hedman A-body Huslers to fit my El Camino 454 Sport under construction.

Had a bit of success finally but wasn't in the right area, decided to install that new to me head unit since Holley only sent the connector and not the pins with it. So now I have to call today to ask for them and wait another week, which I guess will be OK since the guy with the distributor still hasn't got back to me about finally shipping it. Kind of a big question to finish off the radio stuff, looked on here and saw people saying dark green wire would be the correct one for the gauge wiring. Well for me that is part of the brakes so whenever I press them the headunits react, which wire is the tap to get them to probably adjust with lights?

Started on my new exhaust system this week but am getting acquainted with the flux core stainless welding wire. Going to take some practice before I start on the many overlapped and butt joints. Much different than welding mild steel that I’m used too. Not set up for MIG welding, I never converted my Lincoln Weldpak 120 so flux core it is.

I ended up at the body shop supply this morning and got a quart of Dark Claret to finish off my quarter extensions and mirrors. I had to redo the extensions because I didn’t hit the reveals with paint and when I installed the tail lights they stuck out like a sore thumb. And resprayed the mirrors because I had a small run in each of them. I think they are all done now and i’ll have enough paint to do the front and rear bumper fillers.

Got my periodic heads up for the Power nation video of the week and this one shows an Olds Cutlass G-Body being the recipient of a 455 Modello built big block Olds mill. That I can get behind. Wouldn't mind stuffing a 96er in my 85 but laying hands on one around here is problematic and the exchange rate/duty to bring one in has has gone way beyond hideous.
