Nice job grasshopper. Now come over to my house next weekend & make the '79's worn paint shine. I'll have the Jr. Mechanic hold a (root) beer while you're doing. ;)
Hold 2 (root) beers, one in each hand. If he finishes JRs car in time, he gets the second one. If not... well, at least you win

Working on the cruise control on my ‘84 Grand Prix. It’s been pretty flaky and would like to get it fixed. Textron diag tool arrived, so time to plug it in and start going down the diagnostic tree. Then it’s on to the rear brakes.

Finished hooking up my auxiliary fuse panel and cleaned up some wiring under the hood. Also ran some wiring to the inside for the power seats.

I can’t make any promises about reviving old paint, but I’m up for helping him repaint it when the time comes.

That’s going to be installed tomorrow. Wet sanding and buffing will happen on the car to minimize chances of cracking the paint with my novice level skills handling a buffer. Might try one of those cotton wheels intended to be used on a drill for the smaller sections, anyone ever tried that?

And for some clarification: on a 81-86 Monte, the quarter panel extensions and the tag pocket should go on the car BEFORE the bumper cover, correct?

Oh and another shot of the car I forgot to post yesterday:

Had a BBQ this afternoon, had a pork shoulder in the smoker for almost 14 hours. My folks and a few friends were over for dinner and my dad asked how the car was progressing? Slow or stopped past several months was my reply. I backed it out so he and mom could have a look at it. They haven’t seen it in a long time and forgot how pretty it is, brought back memories of when the bought it way back when.

Got some more motor work done over the weekend, but not as much as we were hoping. I ordered the right number cam, but they have 5 variations and multiple for the SBC so of course I got the one that has the wrong bolt patter on the end of it for everything else we have. So hoping it goes out today since I ordered it over the weekend

The plan was to roll the '68 Firebird project out for the roll bar fitment. The battery was so dead it would not even grunt. On goes the charger but what to do instead? The Bonnewagon has been running a little rough so how about a tune up? I pull the spark plugs [not bad], clean the plug wires, yank the cap and rotor [Yikes, has it been THAT long?!?] Good thing I have a new Blue Streak set stashed away. Drain the oil, remove filter. Know what? Let's spray the whole mess down with Purple Power and do it right. I cover the distributor and carb with plastic bags and blast away. Then I install new plugs [.060" gap], new cap and rotor, clean plug wires, new air, fuel, and oil filters. I am trying the Mobil 1 full synthetic 0W-40 European blend in the 301. I have been using it in my Jeeps and I like the wide temperature range. While under there greasing the steering stuff, I smell gas. Oh crap- the fuel line is leaking at the pump. I try to tighten it, and realize the whole pump is loose. Damn, a bolt is stripped. I already replaced the other one with the next oversize which for 5/16" is 8mm. Luckily I save metric stuff and I found another 8mm bolt and after that the pump is on solidly. Removing the hard gas line and re-tightening it must have re-seated it because the leak is gone. I replaced the 3/8" rubber frame to pump line too as it looked dodgy. Once it was all back together I fired it up. NICE!! No need to touch the carb as now it idles as smooth as it used to. And everything is CLEAN! I finished this yesterday and good thing too as someone turned the furnace on again today.
