What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2020]

Nice piece of equipment. I'm jealous. I've seen lots of guys put a toolbox on the nose for straps, tools etc. Could also put the battery for the winch in there.

The place I bought it didn't think it had 12 volts going through the plug to the trailer, but my break-a-way lights up charging any time it's connected to my truck. I will confirm the wiring later.

Yes, some kind of box and battery are a possibility too. Spare tire also.

The OEM well pressure tank sh*t the bed. After 16 years it started to give it up. Actually, there was some corrosion around the rubber air fill valve that allowed the air to seep out around the valve stem. Got away with recharging it and not bleeding down much for several months, but lately it got worse to the point it was too much of a PITA. I was surprised to find it was only a 20 gal tank so I went to a 34 gallon squatty body tank so it could still fit inside the pumphouse. Amtrol is really proud of their tanks ($$) but their construction quality is the best available. Hopefully it'll be here long after I am. Went with lead-free brass piping to tie into the PVC and installed PVC unions for easier future maintenance. One of those deals that you couldn't do much about but suffer in the sun and get r done. I got the union style tee fitting because in the event I ever have to do this again, it'll be a simple matter of turning off the pump, shutting off the valves, draining the tank and swapping it out. A 3 hour job turns into about 20 minutes tops. Whole lot easier now - for the next guy.

Valves! Cheap insurance for ease of future service!

While the toolbox/accessory storage is a nice idea, I wouldn't do it.

I had a decent, steel-floor, 18' open car hauler. I built a platform to mount a nice, lockable sealed box & put a 6k Warn winch that had the cable exit through an access flap. It had a solar batt tender/charger + battery; the winch controller, plus all of my tie-downs & axle straps had a spot.

Very handy set-up that worked well...… for the low-lives that stole it. $1500 trailer w/more than $1500 in support equipment plus the cost of the box itself.

It's replacement (also 18' steel floor open hauler) got a similar mount set-up built under the leading edge of the floor. It has studs that pass through the floor. The new winch got a new canvas tool bag to store it in when not in use & easily move it in/out of the garage to the trailer. Takes about 1min to thread the 4qty 1/2" flanged nuts to secure the winch when needed & it has a spot for the battery to strap down for power. The straps & supporting items are in a handy plastic tool tote that also easily stores in the garage/shop. If this trailer gets stolen, at least I won't have to replace all of the support tools again.

I had that thought as well. Then the winch doesn't have to sit in the weather when not being used.

I also added 2qty tongue locks to the coupler that work w/the standard tongue lock. The basic off the shelf tongue locks don't do much as they can easily (quickly) be cut off. The two additional 'round/cylinder' style locks take more effort (time) which thieves usually avoid. I had my first trailer for a little over a year. It was stolen from right in front of the house & was actually attached to my 68swb truck the night it was stolen (got home late so it was on the street). I've had the replacement trailer for 16+ years now & while the winch cable is not as nice & one tie-down strap hook gave up the ghost, it's still the same group of tools & definitely earned it's investment.

So..... I bought a car trailer. Any tips or ideas to make it better?

I got it with stake pockets, would like to make some type of removable sides to use it like a landscape trailer. Also thinking winch for ease of loading non running vehicles.
Both are good ideas, I am assuming that you have ramps for it. By the looks of it, you won't need much else.

Measure the ramp length. Lots of trailers come w/5' ramps as they're easier. Longer ramps are easier for loading lower height vehicles & worth their investment.
Also... make sure they're able to be locked in place as well.

Came with ramps, they are stored in the back under the deck. Put padlocks on the little doors so they wouldn't disappear.
