What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2022]

Topped off the fluids, checked the anti-freeze protection in all the "old" rides, including the Cutlass. Then the kid (28 year old) and I took the Impala for a spin with the top down on the last nice day we're forecast to have for a while.. then tucked it back away. 18EAC0FB-DC17-4C07-9255-070E620FD31F.jpeg

Garage tetris

My garage is only 21x21 and the new pickup won't fit. Workbench+ pickup= door today won't close. I don't plan on parking it inside long term but it would be nice to be able to pull it in during the winter to change oil or something.

So flip the bench to the right side and toolbox to the left. G body and wife's car are short enough they don't need the length so sacrifice room in the right side.

I built a shelf behind my SS to hold everything I needed to hold in the garage so I could get it in, my C5Z06 fortunately is a short car and that fits in with the washer & dryer behind it having plenty of room. Definitely fun playing garage tetris but once it's done, it's good.

Since I got a press this past summer, cramming the 1500 in the garage is going to be a bit more painful should it become necessary again. I hid it in there with the wifemobile for a few months last year to keep it out of any potential hail while I was gone to school. I have a wee 20x20. It's small, cumbersome to maneuver around shjt, but I've knocked out A LOT of projects in it since we moved here in 2010. Its replacement will be bigger, something like a 25x36ish attached to the house-to-be with a heated slab to get me by until a (hopefully) 40x60ish pole barn goes up, also with a heated slab.

My F150 fits in the one side of the garage but barely. I mean like a <1/4" of space front and rear with the door closed. It barely fits height-wise as well, probably a half inch or less or clearance. It won't fit in the other side of the garage because there are shelves on the forward wall.

I don't know the dimensions on our garage but the house was built in 2005 and it is definitely for modern little jellybean cars. We built a workbench along the front and my regular cab short bed pickup won't go in. Before the bench, my brother's 02 Sierra extended cab would just barely fit. I mean front license plate on the sheet rock, barely fit. My sister in law has been driving Buick Enclaves since 2011. The latest, a 20, wouldn't go in. Sean and I had to trim a 2×4 off the front of the bench to get it in.

Last Saturday back in MI I picked up my snowmobile. Last Sunday I'd drained the tank, cleaned the carbs, and got it fired up. This past Thursday I got back into CO, had Friday off for Veteran's Day, and tomorrow I have to go back to work/reality, so today was the day to get the sled out the back of my truck. Last night I zipped this 4x8 frame together in the garage.

It and a 2x4 had a ratchet strap wrapped around tying them to the bed side. The 4x4 has a screw through the OSB and a clamp to keep it from flopping. I screwed the frame to the wall and got the legs set.

Next it was time to fish that OSB out from under the sled somehow.

Saved me from having to move the dually/camper and fish the cherry picker out from behind the trailer. At that point, I wasn't super happy with no gussets on the legs, so I added a couple. The one on the right ties to the first "joist" which bears the heaviest part of the sled. The one on the left had to clear the Monte so I could snug it right up in there. Since this platform is only 4' high, I was able to lift the sled out the back of the truck myself without dying.

That's with the car flat against the wall, no way to accidentally hit the platform. I'm really happy with it. Now I can drop the skid this winter, blow it apart, get the arms blasted and powdercoated, and the blown out shocks rebuilt. Lucky for me, all 4 are rebuildable.

next house with garage I buy, I'll have to measure to be sure. I would have just THOUGHT "sure, it'll fit!" I mean, my garage currently parks the 65 impala convertible with room to spare, why wouldn't fit in the new house?
