What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2022]

It's kind of late now, unless you plan more projects, but my ridged wet saw has a plastic shield that swings down to cover the blade, keeps things pretty neat and dry all considered. You might be able to rig up one using service parts from another brand from what you've got to keep your blade from slinging water everywhere.

Other than that, looking good!

This kinda reminds me of when I bought a miter saw to do deck boards. As soon as I made my first cut I immediately realized how much asspain it would have saved building the shed that I built with a Skilsaw and a jigsaw. Cost would have been a drop in the bucket too.

Having the right tools is one thing I've learned the hard way not to skimp on.

Not just time saved, but all the less time spent pissed off and irritated at things being more difficult/longer... thats worth more than the money.

What's sad is I wasn't trying to be a cheapass, I'd just never used one and didn't know what I was missing. A few months after buying the miter saw, I borrowed my uncle's out of state and his had a slider. Again, massive game changer. Next time I take on a big project I'm dumping mine and getting a slider. It enables a lot of tricks.

Then we can get you old school, an electric motor with v belts and different attachments you can swap out and hook up to it. Dheap, durable, and fun. All you need is space.

So once i laid the tacks on the door sill, i left it and moved on the seat pan. This particular pan is an antique of sorts and originally sat on a post war Indian motorcycle. Found it on E-Bay in a sad state of condition. If I had a sense of humor I might suggest that the passengers on this seat mostly fell into the Aloha Fluffy category; y'know, about as wide as tall.

Anyway the nose of the pan was bent and required some serious hammer and dolly work to find its way back to shape.

The rear of the seat was torn, the metal literally ripped apart in two areas above the channel bracket that carries the helper spring assembly.

So the last few days have been spent teasing the edges of the tears back into alignment and tacking them together.. Finished the one side today and sanded it all smooth. Shifted over to the other side and managed to get it welded and quit there. I will wind up my dremel tool and clean up the passes and sand them down this weekend or early next week. And yeah,, there may be pictures; probably once I finish with the pretty shtick and remove the rest of the old paint and accumulated crud. Actually, I may not do that, just take some varsol or lacquer thinner or brake cleaner to the crud to cut it off and leave the finish as is after that. Not sure if the red is original; it looks about right for factory so who knows? Not a big fan of "patina". I am more of a clean and functional advocate.

Had my second AGM AC Delco go belly up, this was a replacement they swapped in for me last July. So figure, July 9 to whenever it died in the last 2 weeks.

One thing I hate about AGM are they either work.... or don't. There's no real 'it's getting weak' phase.

The other thing I hate is how relatively short lived they seem to be in my applications. Wish I'd never bought the damn thing, but, because of how the dealership put through the swap they took the in service date from the replacement and not from the original purchase.

So, for at least 27 more months I have more free replacements coming which, as current rates, mean ill be swapping this thing out 3 more times. Then, once I have to actually pay for one, i can promise one thing - won't be another AGM.

Replaced the input shaft seal and dust cover and snap ring. If this mf leaks this time it better leak everything everywhere.

Got a quote to replace the roof on the house. The house is now 25 years old and the roof is original. We had a couple shingles blow off over the winter and I can see a lot of them are cupping. We had 6 square replaced on the back of the house when the Oak tree fell on the house 3 years ago.

The current shingles are 3 tab Owens Corning Supreme. New ones will be Owens Corning Duration Oakridge. Either Onyx Black or Estate Gray.

Which was more painful, seeing the house damaged, or, when the homeowners insurance wouldn't let you buck and remove the oak yourself and paid a service to handle the cleanup?
