What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2022]

Spent a few more minutes just after lunch to lift the truck, remove the dollies and set the jack stands in place. Yarded off the front wheels and the age and deterioration on both sides is pretty much what I remember it as being. The good thing at this point is that there is likely no fluid left in the front circuit so no bleeding or weeping of fluid onto the floor for me to wallow in.

Finally got the Camaro out for a test drive yesterday. I couldn't get it out Saturday because whoever parked the car behind it took the keys and I don't have keys to the front shop so one of my bosses came in Sunday morning and got them for me. After trying all morning I still couldn't get the car to run good and the check engine light wouldn't stay off. The only solution I could come up with was bring it to a mechanic. I've got way to much on my plate to mess with something I don't understand right now. So I brought it to the shop in Lakewood with a list and a credit card number I explained what I need and my boss gave me a ride back to the body shop in Tom's river. By that time it was late afternoon and I still needed to make progress on the daily. I moved cars around got it in the shop and started in. My plan of attack was simply get it apart if I need help with something just move on to something else. The first problem I ran into was the hood is to heavy and high for the limited mobility in my shoulders the second problem was the center 2 cage nuts for the body mounts broke. Luckily gm thought ahead behind the front seats under the carpet there's square steel plugs seam sealed to the floor I just had to move the front seats forward and pop the rear sill plates to gain access. It was about that time EJ stopped by. With his help off came the hood and out came those 2 stubborn cab bolts. I was there until about 5:30 all I have left is drain the coolant remove the steering shaft and disconnect the heater hoses. Then up with the cab.

One other hang up was I don't have a disconnect tool that fits the heater hoses

But I called my boss and he said he would do it this morning so it's probably done. Tonight after work the cab goes up and I start on engine.

so the wife says, I found out there's something on my Sonata called Bluelink, it can show you all kinds of diagnostic info/history. wouldn't that be nice?

me: NO. why the hell would I need that info when I don't work on a car that's still got 3 yrs of warranty life left? and I'm sure as hell not gonna pay $10/mth for something I get for free anyway!

ACN- I think I'll know if we been in a collision
SOS- I'm sure other people will see us have a wreck and will call 911
Roadside- that's what cell phones and AAA are for
Monthly Reports- if no lights are on, then it's working properly. and if a light does come on, I've got an OBD reader
Maintenance alert- wtf? I don't need a car telling me when to take it in

and they want me to PAY FOR IT ?!?

Lots of work now, but then almost nothing for another 200k so it'll be nice for you to be able to finally just turn a key and go on one of them

Hopefully longer I'm doing head studs and stainless steel up pipes while it's apart and anything else I can think of like sending out all 8 injectors to be checked and rebuilt. I'll have a small Fortune in it when I'm done but hopefully then I'm done! Today isn't going so well at work my lead A-tech that didn't come back from lunch Friday didn't come in today and I'm pouring over resumes sending them to the main office for interviews. All the wile still doing estaminets and helping in the shop. Hopefully I find someone trainable at least.

Put the TBSS on a flatbed and sent it off for repairs. For once it is not my problem to fix.

I had already decided to unpack and lay out all the components that i had ordered for the S-10 brake job, so today was as good a day as any. The motivation here was to inspect the calipers and determine if they needed to be painted as rust protection. Got them upacked and Surprise! The boxes read left and right; the contents were both for the right or passenger. Fast phone to the vendor and here comes the delivery truck with a replacement.....Ya think?? Surprise again!! Different box p/n but same side part. Phone Vendor again and send both boxes back. Here comes yet another box and, Finally, I have a matched pair.

So they were both nice and clean and already painted; you betcha, I hit them both with a good coat of Krylon semi-flat anti-rust, just to cover the shelf and shipping abrasions. At that point the shop temperature was in the mid to high 70's and the humidex was adding about ten degrees so shut 'er down and wait for tomorrow. Supposed to be another evening of cannon boomers.

I am so glad to be out of the auto repair business. I have never seen such whiny a>>ed people like a mechanic

After a little baseball practice we took the HellKitty for ice cream before dinner since I am headed back to Twattawa for the week at zero-dark-early tomorrow.

Dinner with good friends and a round of golf should help ease the pain.
