Had a pretty significant ice storm roll through the area on Wednesday last week. Lost power for about an hour in the morning before it came back. The lost it again in the early afternoon and was out for ~50 hours before they were finally able to restore power early Friday evening. Storm had passed, and crews were brought in from all over to help repair the damage. Lost power once more on Saturday for about 4 hours, presumably they had to shut us down while working on part of the grid.
Walked the property a bit on Wednesday during the storm and could hear trees snapping off all over the place. I think there was something like 270,000 customers without power in Eastern Ontario and another 1.1 million in western Quebec.
My cheap old Champion generator worked like a champ though. 50 hours straight without stopping. With all the precipitation, the spring melt and no power, flooding has been a big issue. I have my sump pump on a UPS, but I don't think it liked the power coming from my generator. Ran the battery down on the UPS and ended up with a couple of inches of water in the basement. Didn't completely destroy the laminate flooring down there, but definitely some swelling at the edge.
