What did you do to your non-G Body project today [2024 edition]

Helped my buddy that did my motor pull his cousin in laws motor, he had been having his kid track it and he missed a shift during the event. Turned out to be a real adventure
after he was trying to help bleed the new cart we were going to use to drop the k member with and had the majority of the fluid sitting in the parking lot. So my buddy decided we would drop it onto his tool cart......

That's striped up like it ought to have an LT4. Even looks to have the SS wing, but clearly wears a Z28 badge.

Tool cart didn’t look to happy about it’s weight capacity testing. Looked like a good day’s work for you guys.

+100 on the tool cart blues. I personally winced when I saw that. From the angle on the one shot it looks like the bottom rail buckled completely and one of the casters has torn away from the leg. It's not that that trick can't be done, it is only that to do it correctly you need an industrially rated tool cart, not just one that is commercial or garage grade. Harbor Freight actually offers a cart that they term 'Industrial" might get out the salf shaker for that one but, if true, is a good price and might even be potentially capable of accepting and supporting a complete drive/front suspension assembly @ around what......1000 lbs?

Yeah he had a different plan in mind until the cart he got for it ended up with the majority of the fluid in the parking lot, he knew it was iffy trying it but we didn't really have anything else. I guess those harbor freight setups are filled with air pockets so it literally leaks down as it sits with no weight, so we would have had to bleed it and his cousin was just trying to save us time to do it while we were still getting stuff unhooked on the motor. I imagine he is going to get one of those Ikon tool carts that would hold the weight as a replacement

Or a slight mod in its rebuild? It did the job even at it’s loss.

You say you're not a wood guy, but I recall you also making that console out of repurposed wood for the buick so I think you're well on your way!
Winter project will basically be a wooden version of a Monte console, breadbox and all, with maybe a Bluetooth radio hidden in the breadbox part. But console will be wider and taller and lid will open rearwards with a lil cable to prevent overextension. I don't like how far down the current console is. If you've ever sat in a 2007-13 impala, you sit low in those cars and I like the elbow to console hight.

Also quite ambitious but I'd like to rip the plastic liner from a lunch box and fit it into the console for road sodas. And maybe drill a small hole in the floor for a drain like the ac box lol

Build your own console from wood, y'say? Would be highly interested in seeing under construction and progress shots for that exercise. What kind of wood, thin mahogany or poster board or fibre board or some kind of thin wood laminate???

I have been giving some consideration to modifying the one that i have to account for the offset needed to accept the shifter. Was considering expanded PVC as it seems to be close to what what was used originally by GM. What has me stopped right now is sourcing the stuff. I don't think that I need a 4 x 8 foot sheet but that might be all that Home Depot has to offer. The other point is the adhesive or glue to bond sections together. I have seen this stuff being used in various of the auto builder shows where the objective is a box or surround and they seem to use a two part adhesive system where they can apply the adhesive as a liquid and then use a second spray bottle to apply the activator or catalyst to harden the seam. What gets me is that the reaction time for a set to occur is seconds. And they don't show or discuss the brand name or source for what they use. Meh.

I'm no Norm Abrams. I couldn't tell you oak from pine. Or cherry from mohogany. I doubt it'll be from solid hardwood stuff, probably just half inch plywood again, or something that has good grain structure that will screw/nail together nicely. As you probably know if you nail or screw into plywood edges it kind of digs out and chips apart whatever layer the screw or nail penetrates and falls apart. Glue would help but it's gon a be taken apart a lot for fitment a d adjustment and I also want something cheapish but solid, that will take a darker red stain easily, to half assedly match my maroon interior. It also has to hold my fat *ss leaning on it and not implode. The plywood is doing okay at that so far, but again I want something a bit more robust for the same ish dimensions.
