What did you do to your non g-body project today [2025 edition]

I wrecked it, diamond the front section of the frame.. rust was a secondary contributing issue as well.

And a frame shop wouldn't touch it? I guess not all that surprising, they were real squeamish about pulling my plow truck too and that ended up not being very bad at all. Would you do it again?

So back story... because route I took doesn't really make sense without it..
Bought the truck in Jan '23 wrecked in March '23.. it's the first thing I've financed on over 10 years, so no active credit history..
Haggled the adjuster to write a quote just under totalled amount. Then wrote the check to me and my company. Told them making the payment was more important than fixing the truck, and for all I cared it could sit in my shop till I cash flowed the repair myself.
If I sent it to shop it would have been totaled if that would have touched it.

Started Christmas weekend of 23 once I got other projects cleared out of the way.. had it moving October but not road worthy till mid December
Definitely not the common way of going about it lol

Yep, worse than mine was for sure. I vaguely recollect a prior post about this and how much cleaner the new frame was. At least you're on the downhill now. And on the plus side, with it not being totalled, you can keep full coverage on the thing and be covered should something happen to it in the future.

The frame I put under it.. it wasnt perfect but substantially better. All new brake lines, convert a 04 frame to a 09 frame had to drill few holes and re do the front bumper frame horns

really? so you didn't have to tweak the body mounts or anything else?

No major tweaking, anyways had to shim the fenders away from the door along with some rough hammer/dolly type work. They caught the tow hook and yanked the truck sideways.

~10 months really for wreck related stuff, last few months have been fixing neglected stuff, and fixing some mistakes along the way..

Also had the engine out of my Malibu wagon during the spring/summer of '24 as well so it wasn't the only project I was working on

right, I'm just surprised the two frames were practically identical in how you mount the body. that's not usually the case when you move between generations

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMT800 (99-07)
The GMT800 introduced a three-section frame system. This could be mixed and matched depending on the wheelbase, GVWR, and body type fitted to the platform, rather than a single-piece long frame. The front section was hydroformed, while the middle and rear sections were roll formed or stamped, depending on application. This gives greater flexibility to the platform. A total of four front modules, seven midsections, and four rear sections were designed, and supported nearly 40 truck configurations.
