What did you do to your non g-body project today [2025 edition]

Changed the probably 20 year old rear diff oil trying to cure a howling. It was super dark and was as viscous as warm 10w30. Lots of pretty glitter tho.
I'm surprised that fill plug didn't put up a fight. Rusty plow truck scares me sometimes. But oddly enough from the rear of the cab forward, the truck is almost pristine by comparison.

speaking of which, what IS the typical lifespan of rear diff oil? 20 yrs? 100k miles?

I've only ever changed it 3 times in 3 different vehicles. I'd say that's a decent schedule. Unless one does a lot of hard driving or towing.

On a GMT400 I believe the (or a) spec is 30k and unlikely to be 20+ years as is typical. I found that after I did 70k and the oil was black as tar. Whoops. The oil my 1500 came with had the consistency of ATF, so about like what Mr Sony found in his. Mr Sony would be wise to do the front too, it's super easy. I've changed all fluids in all of my trucks except brake fluid in the plow truck but that's happening this week.

Depends on use, I've cooked a diff towing in 80k.....my suburban I haven't opened the diff since I got it with 251 on it, it's got 489🫣, but I rarely tow with it and drive ~90 mile round trip to work and back
