whats needed to make it street legal:
1. fix brake lines and rear brake cylinders
2. fix my brake light problem
3. get it regestered...again
4. new windsheild
what i wanna do to it:
1. do a burnout till i hit drums
2. rims
3. fix my cowl hood
4. shifter
5. body work
6. paint

I see no mention of beer consumption anywhere in this list. wtf?
beer is for after, because if i start drinking while im workin, nothing will get done, correctly or at all
and ill drink beer with anyone, as long as yer buying
an on the news of the steering box, i got it swapped out yesterday in the morning and actually drove the elky around the block and it was a night and day difference in the steering effort. i could steer with one arm, but the only thing is its 5 turns lock to lock, so thats the onl down side to a good thing. tomorrow is brake lines and then hope fully regestration and then a new shifter. i drove it around the neighborhood and passed 3 cops with no county sticker and expired temp plates and didnt get pulled over. musta been my lucky day.

last night i got werkin on the rear brakes. i replaced the rear cylinders whitch i though was gonna be a PITA, but the lines came off without too much cussin and the cylinders clips gave me a lil fuss but came out nice. what i did do wrong was take both drum brakes apart without remembering how to put them back together :? so then i decided to remove the driverside line and make a new one. i will say this: dont buy the double flair tool from autozone, it sucks donkey gibblets. get a good one from sears or snapon or some other reputable tool place. the flares i made looked lopsided and the tool didnt line up with itself, bunch of bs i had to finagle it to work as best as it could. not worth the headache. well after that fail of tool werk i finally figured out how to put the passenger side brake together, then the driver side took like 30 seconds. one of the adjusters was seized so i went to EVERY auto parts store to get new ones and no one had any in stock so i had to order them from o'rilies. and after cleaning up and getting ready to go home and drink beer my mom said my late grandpa had some tools left over and she wanted me to go through them to see if i wanted any thing. so i might get a bunch of old craftsman sockets and wrenches, and MAYBE, if my uncle doesnt want it a dial guage thats accurate up to .0005 of an inch! so thats what i got done and now i gotta wait till monday to do anymore werk. oh1 and i also mocked up the cowl hood to see what it looks like.
pics? Why yes, i have them!

Awesome man. Last time I did rear brakes was on my '81 this spring...and had to replace the backing plates. Lets just say the torch was out several times that weekend.

well i broke my camera a few days ago otherwise i would have some pics. so what i have done so far is cut, bend and flair new lines that are on the rear from the splitter to the wheel cylinders. the bending tool i bought is worthless, i can bent the lines better with my hands that trying to fumble with that thing. yesterday i was planning on getting the large line from the front all the way to the back, but where the lines come out of the master cylinder and go into this "box" and split off to go to the front wheels and then the one large one that goes to the back, that one dont wanna come off. and i think the lins i got are too big. i got 3/16 for the rears and 5/16 for the large line. what i prolly need is 1/4 line, i just hope i dont have to replace that box cuz for one i dont know what it called, and two i dont know how much its conna cost to replace or if i can replace it. i will tell ya one thing, the brake lines would be ALOT easier to replace if the body was off the frame. so i guess thursday ill go and swap out the lines for the correct ones and then bleed the brakes with my buddy. after that then comes payday and a tci fast gate shifter. and then figuring out the rear brake light problem.

for the fitting on the rear line at the proportioning valve don't loose that. They are hard to find and you can reuse it with the new line. One thing with brake lines cunifer is great to work with and it does not corrode. You can form it with your hands. I tis a bit more expensive than steel tho..

yeah thats the one! but mines way worse off.

If you are replacing the line and the nut doesn't want to move cut the line get a 6 point wrench and some penetrating oil. Tighten and loosen it a little bit till it brakes free.

yeah ive cut most of the line off and crimped the crud-juice outta the line so it wouldnt squirt fluid out anymore so i could still drive it around the block and move it around the driveway. i did spray it with pb blaster i just gotta wait till tomorrow and im thinking i could use a trip to the tool store and get some more wrenches...but i gotta wait till payday.

well i got the line off and i had to reuse the fitting in the perpor...that thing.. and i got 2 lines and put one on the thing and the other on ther rear and then spliced them in the middle. then a few hours later me and a buddy bled the brakes and wow, it doesnt sink to the floor anymore! we only did the rears for now but i wanna bleed the fronts because the fluid in there is cloudy and icky. after bleeding the brakes it was dark out and i decided to drive the car around at night, and HOLEY CRAP! my headlights SUCK!!!!! there good looking in the day but they dont provide enough light at all, even with the brights on. so theres another thing imma have to do eventually. so today is payday and i have to wait till after werk to cash my paycheck and then i owe 143 bucks to the shop and then 126 for the tci fast gate shifter. THEN...gotta hook up the lock up wiring for the trans and also get some bulbs for the car and filler up with a few gallons of gas. then get plates and county stickers and all that bs. so im getting close, really close.
