I’ve been painting with PPG Envirobase for the past 4 years, in a shop where sealer is a necessary evil. The envirobase sealer is some of the best I’ve ever used and still
I prefer to paint over properly sanded primer over sealer any day. 9 times out of ten the job comes out much cleaner when there isn’t a coat of sealer. You also get sealer creep at your doorjambs. For some reason sealer goes in further than the base and clear.
You could always seal it, wait a long flash time, then nib sand it. I think the way you’re going over the car, your prep will be spot on and there’s no need to seal it.
the sealer flies further in the jambs because it's the heavier of everything your spraying.even heavier than high solids.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you're behind again already! As D's unofficially official PR guy, I'm here to inform y'all he was off today and has been laboring away on Olds Cool. It's looking mighty fine, and I'm sure he'll update the thread when the literal dust settles!

Yep, that’s right Scott.

Finally got the trunk lid primed and blocked out again (that’s the third time for those keeping track), and it’s finally right now!

From there I moved directly onto blocking out the hood one more time, (Second go-round on this one) and I’m pleased to announce its good as well!!

I wish you guys could see this stuff in person, the pictures just don’t even begin to do them justice. They’re so flat and straight it’s almost unnatural. And this is still only 220 grit!

Probably much to Dazedandconfused’ dismay, I ain’t slowing down. Currently starting to work on the right front fender and header panel, so gotta go!

Later gents!

D.

Paint the damn car already!!! :ROFLMAO:

I really do wish it was that easy Rick, but I’ve got a bit of a journey left to go yet. Once I get the entire car to block out properly and evenly in 220, I still have 320, 400 and 600 wet grits left to go. Once I hit the 400 stage tho, it should really start going quickly as there’s not much material being removed, just enough to eliminate the previous grit’s scratches.

TRUST ME, no one wants to see this car get painted and close this chapter more than me!

8 mil thick coats of paint will fill in those little scratches. 2 coats should do it. Easy peasy. :)

What paint line do you plan on using? I saw you were priming it with Omni and shopline.

Yep, I started out using ShopLine but they discontinued it, or at least my distributor can’t get it anymore. But I switched to the Omni high build and my distributor swears it’s the same product, just labeled differently. And they seem to be right because the Omni high build has all the same characteristics and I’ve even been able to use the extra Shopline hardener in it I had left over.

As for the paint, I haven’t bought it yet because I obviously want the freshest stuff I can get. It’ll definitely be solvent based tho as I don’t have the equipment to spray water bourne. I’m thinking it’s going to be PPG/Omni MBX or MBC basecoat and MC2910 (MC760) high solids clear.

Chris, you have no idea how much I’d love to be able to bury this thing in 2021 clear!
I have a buddy that I got to look into getting some across the border for me, and this is what it would cost:

Clear DCU2021 - $444.95
Activator DCX61 - $261.78
Reducer DT885 - $129.95

And those prices are in US dollars! With our Canadian peso at an all time low because of this virus BS, it’s simply out of the question for me. Plus, I plan on putting additional coats on so I can cut and buff it, so I’m looking at probably 2 gallons. So take those numbers there and double them again.

Too rich for my blood!
