This past weekend I got the Camaro cleaned up decently. First I had to get it off the stands. Check out the back section of wheelwell liner from the fire.

It's supposed to be mostly flat. I have spares, so this went in the trash. I got the car down on the street and jacked the one side way up.

Spray, let it dry, repeat until clean. Took a while with all the drying. You can't see filth when it's wet. I flipper the car around and repeated on the other side. Then washed the outside, then pressure washed the interior. Soooo much cleaner now, but not yet squeaky clean. Next we put it back inside and my 9 year old got it jacked up partway, she's still pretty light to be cranking on a jack.

Next I scrubbed the tire turds/streaks and scuffs off the best I could and dabbed some red touch up on spots that were gouged to primer. It's looking spiffier now, so I'll grab a stud gun and see what I can accomplish with that. I ought to be able to get the left side looking decent with that and a porta power. I think I'll use the right side for practice, that one's a bit too far gone.

This popped up on marketplace last night and went and looked at it after work today.

Dad and I have have had a 4th gen firebird since 2010. I drove it through HS/college as a winter beater and dad uses it as his beater speed car. Put an l67 in it and ran a best of 12.63.

The chassis on ours is beat, it's rusty, and the clear/paint is flaking. Suspension is toast, The dash is cracked and the seats are flat. The only good thing is the drivetrain which is really good.

Been looking for a clean 98-02 3800 non vert auto in not white, red, black or grey. Like 80% of 4th gens come in red, black, white or grey so finding one in something else is really hard. I also don't want the ugly T/A appearance cladding package which like 50% of 3800 y87 cars have.

This 00 maroon (really low production 00-02 only color) with the y87 perf package (f41, posi, 3.42, rear disks), non w68 cladding, power leather seats came up. Had 215k but was in good enough shape to look at.

It is basically optioned exactly how I want. Only way that it could be better would be dark green or gold.

Bummer though, the rear half is just starting to rust out, the interior smells like a pall-mall factory and the seats had some sketchy repair, it's like they rolled silicone or RTV on the deteriorating/cracked leather.

I'm not surprised it's rusty, but I am bummed. Would be nice to have a nice roller to drop my l67 setup into. Ideal and really rare options.

The rust was just starting to bubble through the rear quarter lips, and a hole was just appearing on the lower quarter adjacent to the rocker. Basically identical rust issues as my red firebird had when I got it in 2010. If I didn't know about the rust issues that 4th gens were liable to I might have fallen for it, but I walked. LCA subframe was just starting to rust through also.

Needs the TA hood replaced with a flat or formula one but I like!

I just need to fly down to GA lol...
The ta hood probably fetches enough to cover airfare down and gas/food home.

So, mom was driving me to/from an outpatient procedure this morning, she drives, she picks which toy to use.... and so she picked the slk320.

On the way back it entered limp mode with a dash lit like a Xmas tree, no speedo signal. Me, still being groggy, didn't connect the dots fast enough to tell her not to put it in park.... which she did.... and the trans locked itself out in German style to keep you from keeping on driving. Then she shut it off and it got its dreaded no crank no start situation, also a German specialty.

So, anesthesia is off now, need to do something and get it back home. The cheap $12 fix and literally 5 minutes labor is the brake stop switch, had all those same symptoms in my clk430 about 8 years back. So I'll be popping that in there , see how it goes after that and resetting the error codes.

Another day, another broken car

So, after some amplified back pain (ever try to get under the dash of a r170 series slk?) the car is back into running shape. My obd2 scanner was glitching out and in the interest of just getting this over with there was a trip to harbor freight for a German compatible model that also pulled and cleared ABS codes....

BUT...

It's done. Mom felt bad and kept saying sorry I had to deal with it today and all that, but, who knows how much longer she'll be with us so I admit to going out of my way (such as 'pick a car' ) to humor her and brighten the days we do have. My back on the other hand.... it's on the warpath. Bad day for the SSS - spasms, stenosis, and sciatica.

I brought the Cowboy Truck truck home.
20220507_180016.jpg
It has been sitting at my mother's house for the last 6-7 years. Finally getting back to it. Me and my son named it Cowboy Truck because it symbolizes my younger days of rodeoing and horses. It is a 77 Highboy with a 79 grill, and a dually axel. The engine I put together over the winter is going back in it.
20220227_094520.jpg
I had to cut a few saplings out of it to move it.
20220507_144955.jpg
I did put the battery in the Brown Turd and fired it up. Aired the tires up and took it around the block.
20220507_180009.jpg
I plan to start daily driving this car again soon. I need to figure out why the windshield wipers don't shut off first? Any one interested in a Ford truck build?

I took a whack at the MAF yesterday on my 1500, got it better but it could still use some blending.

MAF Before.jpg

MAF After.jpg

I don't remember why that hump was there, but it's mostly gone now. I'd changed the injector flow rate, which changes VE/MAF and has a host of 2nd/3rd order effects. By my math, I'll peg this table back in MI, or be a load cell or 2 away. I'm already maxxing out the MAF based timing table here at altitude but I also have a MAP based timing puller to sprinkle on top of the factory table. I went MAF only last fall and the truck was a lot less quirky. I did this after I learned on the dually what I'd been messing up on the VE all these years with the new procedure that tunes both in a single log. Back in the day I'd do VE by itself and get it right. Been shooting myself in the foot for a long time. We'll see if this fixes the crappy cold starts, if not now that the MAF is correct I can alter the tables that reference this to correct the cold start issues. I think it's my idle airflow that needs work, but there's 2 different tables that fight each other so not looking forward to that.
