primary rods are marked and I don't think they make a .51, they have a .50 and .52, if it has an M then the tip is .36, other rods are .26. To measure the rod you measure above the taper, from above the taper to the top the rod is the same size.

Your first post about the rod and jet sizes was correct....from factory the jet is 67, the rods are 41 and the secondary is CV. It was on a Cutlass with a 350 so are you sure it's an 800?. Does it have the hump in the primary?

As far as being used only one year that is no way to judge a parts quality of design...starting 1974 emission specs changed and still do, every new year...the whole "system" back then was really just a beginning, and each subsequent year as well...remember Pulsair?

the fact that you can remove the auxiliary power piston and rod and still set up the carb to run properly with the main power piston, rods and jets shows it in not needed and just adds to the time spent on the two pistons to lift at their appropriate times. It is common to change the power piston spring to have the piston react quicker with the change of vacuum but with two power pistons I wouldn't waste my time
