I used Evap-o-rust on lightly rusted parts, worked nicely however I left my stuff in for 24 hours.
One mystery is that it turned a shifter gear selector arm completely black, I am assuming it was because it's galvanized??? It was caked in grease/crap so I threw it in with a few other brackets thinking that there was rust under the grease caking and to see how well it removed that as well.

I saw a evaporust you tube video and it said the black was carbon from the steel and it should just wipe away? I had to wire wheel it off. I think I want to try it in a sonic cleaner and see what it does for fun and I will try some stuff for a longer period of time also

I'm liking the progress. I'm wanting to find a frame to do this to for my car. So it's nice to see what others are doing, how they overcome the issues encountered.
I have seen Evaporust used on surface rust and it works great. I've been wondering how it works on scale rust like the parts on these cars end up with. Now I know at least how it worked for you.

if any one sees this, can you tell me what the purpose of the small slots in the body mount holes are for,a friend of mine asked me and I have no answer for them

Wish I knew. I can only speculate that GM originally designed it that way to work with a different style of body mount. When I boxed and repaired some questionable holes in my frame, I didn't put the slots back in, I didn't see the point.

I thought about not putting them in also but I chickened out and made them look the same
