Should've mentioned this previously, have you verified TDC and marked the balancer so it can be checked with a timing light? It's easy before it's completely assembled with all of the front accessories.

I inherited the exact same car. It came with a 307 4bbl V8 my dad had it ordered from the dealership. It had a 2.19 7.5" rear end. After an engine change and a broken valve lifter I called the local "U Pick a Part" salvage yard and put it out of its misery... Otherwise I was going to torch it! It was a dog. My dad liked dogs and Oldsmobiles! His previous car was also a 1978 Cutlass Supreme two door with a 260 Cu. In. 2-Bbl. But Top Dog awards go to my current Cutlass before it shed its 350 85 Bhp diesel engine for a Chevy 383 450 Bhp crate motor.

I haven’t. Can I do that with the head on?
