1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham

The car is back, it flawlessly made the trip back home. Still getting used to the new steering feel - quite a difference...!

Started looking at the engine - never paid much attention to it as it ran OK and was going to junk it at some point.

Well, this engine is a non-CCC setup. A bit surprised, but I see now that most Canadian cars were that way prior to 1988.

So before I drop the V6 turbo engine, I'll need to get the proper wiring harness for CCC goodies - TPS, distributor control, M/C solenoid. That is suddenly getting a bit more complicated.

Complicated? This is as JV as an EFI swap gets! You'll be fine, there's plenty of knowledge here to get you through.
Yeah, does not look too bad after all.

My car has none whatsoever ECM, but the dash wiring is ECM-ready. That was what I was worried about. Having to dig for wires behind the dash was... not a thing I need in my life.

So my non-ECM car has this connector, most wires are unused:

Then, the CCC wiring harness that I am looking for is a "four way" thing - 1) dual connectors interconnect to the wiring from dashboard, 2) 3) to the ECM, and 4) wire loom going to the engine through the firewall.

Playing with my new scope, getting familiar with my equipment for the engine transplant. This is the tach signal from the HEI (levels buffered by a voltage divider). Quite curious to plug the knock sensor signal on channel 2 and see what that looks like...!

Yeah, CCC wasn't an option till 85 in Canada, standard on 86 cars. The non CCC stuff is ridiculously lean and the carbs need a lot of passages opened up for anything other than stock.

Been very busy --

1. Painted the Aurora - using Eastwood canyon dusk copper paint, turned out ok; a practice run for the Cutlass 🙂

2. Got the new EV, crazy cool car. Lots of nice features, cannot help but think that this is a 2023 car, but my old (and gone) 2008 Volvo had the same features - adaptative cruise control, blind spot alerts, and that thing was detecting lines on the road. 2008! But that 2023 EV is really cool - the torque is crazy - no turning back for daily car.

3. Cutlass - the neglected car in the last few days - but going back to it. Started removing stuff, etc.

I could drive the EV to work, anywhere else here on the Prairies, pretty useless.
