1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham

Slowly removing, unhooking stuff, labelling wires.

The messy part is removing the coolant, keeping it for the last step before lifting the engine!

lota of crap to scrape and clean in the engine bay before I can think of putting the new engine 🙂

was quite funny to see one engine mount fall on the ground, disintegrated, as the engine was lifted 🙂

Best part being the old motor still didn't have the nut to finish it off! 🤣

This will be much nicer with some boost. Not fast by any means, but a much more pleasant cruiser.

first phase is scraping the thick smudge layer off. not sure what I will do to next to further clean it, but happy to see years of engine oil leaks prevented rust to attack any part of the frame - at least, in this area 🙂

post-scriptum: my 2003 Oldsmobile Aurora with the Northstar-like V8 engine has better self-lube abilities, after 260000km, no rust around the engine either, but it extends till the middle of the car... 😉

...that part of the frame is like-new... love to see the # stamped in the steel and the fabrication marks. Also noticed that the factory welds are very, very crude.

Having a lot of fun playing with the brackets on the new engine, as I am adding the whole computer-thing, including AIR pump / but deleting the AC. Changes a lot of things...

When breaking in the engine, will only need the water pump and the alternator, but planning ahead for the PS and AIR pumps will ease things later on.
