Yea my hot rod mentor JR,RIP. always talked about the 69 camaro he had. Told me it had a 302 in it. I scoffed and said isn't that a ford engine. He explained to me the relationship between bore and stroke, oversquare engines and the solid cam in it. 8k rpm was no issue he said.
That and the 425 olds in his tri 5 hot rod were his pride and joy.

Mike, not so oddly enough I happen to have a 305 center bolt rocker covers, one piece rear main seal, c/w with ring gear, balancer, 4 barrel manifold, sitting on an engine dolly in my shop/garage/???. Along with it's matching TH200R4 It became a refugee when i yanked them out of my Monte S/S project; ran when pulled, has sat for a while; short back story is that the mill did not match the car, I wanted a year correct engine for my project and found one. Best of my recollection, admittedly short, it did not huff or puff when I snatched it out. No carb or timer, they got shelved for use on the replacement. Currently sitting on an engine dolly and covered up. This assembly, motor and slushbox, is free to a good home. If you are considering your options for a replacement power train and want to keep the Lady Mullet on the road while assembling the bits and pieces..................it just depends on what you finally decide to run with.

Thanks for the offer, Nick. But, if I go turbo 305 it will be something like "the Grenade":

I have a spare LS here... and if push comes to shove a couple of donor cars. LOL.

Wow, a reference to Marty’s grenade 355. Be careful everyone, reading through that thread got me hooked. If I can’t put a turbo on it, then I don’t want it - Marty can be thanked for that.

I stumbled onto that thread years ago and have reread it a couple of times since. Trials, tribulations and diligence. That dude had no give up in him.

TBSS has a currently idle engine...

My brother and I used to dream about taking the 4.3L taxi cab crank and plopping it into a LT1 block and making a late-model 302. I know it has been done, but we were talking about this 20+ years ago.

DZ302 is my favourite muscle car engine of all time.

Stupid sexy, Duntov.
Who needs Barry White when you have that kind of sexy music? “Let’s….get it on”

Gotta be old school to know about that saga.

It took me a minute to find the threads. People don't understand that "sloppy" and Holdner's "turbo anything" started on the Turbo Forums. Happel just next levelled it. And Holdner helped mainstream it.

If I remember correctly, the BBC Grenade wasn't quite as successful.

Correct, he burnt that thing down. If you remember, he put the Grenade into the car because he was sick of blowing up built motors. So after he built the next car he went with a much nicer car and much better motor - result : caught on fire and destroyed it 🙁 smh.

I love the photos of him prepping the Grenade with the heads and pan removed and using a pressure washer to clean it. Wiped it down, sprayed some WD40 or similar on it, slapped on some mostly junk steel heads with a new set of head gaskets and beat the snot out of it, albeit with careful tuning and alot of access/visits to a dyno.
