Gov lock don’t expect much from this type of carrier when it comes to performance designed to act like an open rear for fuel mileage The gov locks Center weights work on inertia which ramp out to engage it’s Posi i’ve never had one explode into pieces like most people but I found they wear out quickly just my two cents

I blew the gov lock up in my 05 on a pothole. I was pulling out of a driveway and I punched, like an *ss, I heard a pop. I thought it was just the pothole but, it was the spider gears. I had about 100k on it at the time so I guess it was due. I wound up putting the same thing back in because it was just the quickest way to get my truck back on the road for the shop I took it to.

Gov lock has a bad rep. Not sure if it's deserved or not, but there wouldn't be a lot of people dissing them if there wasn't any truth to it.

Best I can find on the gov lock cross shafts....I cannot find a part number for the cross shaft. But you can buy the whole differential which comes with all that crap except for the gears for around 800 bucks!!!

Pontiac guy hit it on the money. 3.08 and down is the break point 3.23 and up is a 3 series carrier. If it is a Eaton Gov Loc try to get your money back. Low speed locker famous grenading under heavy use.
I misspoke my apologizes. Its the 3.23 and up carrier.

if I were you I'd try to sell that gov lok and buy a 3 series Eaton Trutrac. The thick gear set is going to cost you close to $300 and if the gov loc explodes you won't have an easy time selling 7.5 thick gears. The trutrac goes for under $500
and used 3.73 are not that hard to find

Call hoss's gear shop in norvelt pa. If it's available he will have it or can get it. This 70+ year old guy is amazing, you need to see inventory! (724) 423-6502 I guess his address is actually mt. Pleasant pa. Which is just out side Greensburg, pa.
