I always recommend to ditch these engine-mounted salami-slicers 😉 buy two electrical SPAL-fans and install them directly on your radiator, with the switch in the cylinderheads. since I did that, i never had any trouble again with overheating, and i drive that thing in dense, daily central-european traffic, so the engine gets kicked around a bit ^^

A dodge intrepid fan is literally $25 from the salvage yard and 1 hour with a hacksaw, a drill and some rivets, a $4 piece of 1/8X1 steet strip from menards, 4 bolts, and a cutlass style rad top plate, relays and a temp sensor in the intake will yield an electric fan setup that makes working on the car easier, cools better, and visually is an improvement. The extra HP is a bonus weather you feel it or not.

I have the Stratus fans on my 88. They work well. But I have had many of those switches fail and many single 40 amp relays fail as well, maybe I need two. Almost nothing can go wrong with a 4 blade mechanical fan.

It's normal for the temperature to rise while idling. We don't know what the temperatures are while diving or while idling and they be within proper operating temperatures. .......

Get the correct gm fan for your car from a car that came equipped with factory air. That plus a new or proper working fan clutch should be all you need. The radiator has to be in proper condition and for an air conditioned car. Don't overlook the cap too. If all that is working, next would be a good 195 degree thermostat. My 83 cutlass with a 305 will run at 195 degrees on a 108 degree day in traffic stop & go because everything works and isn't a marriage of random junkyard parts. Find out what is really wrong, is the radiator clogged up externally? If so- remove & clean it- a lot of stuff gets between the ac cond & rad. The short answer is if everything is working the way it should, stock is fine.

Radiator is brand new. Champion. Engine is a Buick 350. Shroud is from a 307 cutlass. I had the stock 231 V6 fan, but it was bent. I got a fan off of a 229 v6, idk if it's factory. the blades dont have the little flipped up tips on the blades that the 231 fan does. Clutch is a thermal type, 2-3 years old. new 195* thermostat. newer water pump. new hoses.
