72 Beetle project

It was my nephews project, built the chassis and engine and he drove the chassis around the farm, finally found a body and then it stalled out due to lack of time. He told me about it being up for sale last year or so but this weekend I gave him the cash for it. Now I have to find time to get back to Iowa and get it moved to Texas, most probably in November before his wedding. And no, I couldn't resist 😉
At least you kept it in the family. It looks like it's already had most of the work done too, except for paint and assembly.

I know you have the car already but, saw this and just wanted to add it in while we’re on VW’s. And I had to go way back in a friend’s texts as he had and may still have it up in Nova Scotia for sale just because it’s cool and not seen much.

Which is talked about on this video I believe or is similar concept.

I had crashed my 1968 Firebird in the 1977-78 blizzard. [Long story] So I got the family 1966 Bug that was so rotted, when you went to close the driver door the entire body rose up. The rockers were so rotted out the only heat was from one of the rear seat ducts. [VW used the rockers as heat tunnels to feed heat to the front ducts. There was a duct in each rear seat front panel] So I ran a length of pool filter hose jammed into the only working duct, ran that up and hung the other end from the rear view mirror, and pointed it at the windshield in front of me. I got back and forth to work in Jackson Heights the rest of the Winter like that. The engine outlasted the body on that one.

My mom owned 3 of them. Not positive on the years of them (one 67’, one 69’ and a 72’? Was a super beetle) two were rag tops. Did newspaper routes with them. Never got stuck in the snow. My brother had a 59’ that sat in a garage for 25-30 years finally sold it and it got restored.

I was cleaning up the garage today, and my boy was vacuuming out the Beetle. It’s a rust bucket, but he’s in love with it.
I pulled the front bumper, and it looks better already.

It's the round headlights. Round headlights are cool. (Although I may be biased as a squarebody aficianado since roughly 1980.)

Interesting kit, kinda like a Sebring, but not. My Dad built a Bradley GT II, I took a date to homecoming in it my senior year. The downfall to many of the Bradley GT II was that the Windshields are no longer available. There are many for free, missing windshields

Not a bad racket. Buy a nice one. Buy a busted windshield. Insurance claim, free car, buyback, rinse, repeat.

How has the mafia not caught on yet?

So apparently what I have is a standard beetle, and not a super beetle. So it’s gone up in value without me doing anything, score.
My son can’t wait for me to finish the 36 so I can pull the beetle in to start working on it. I promised him I would be able to get it running so we could go for a ride. Tall order since it doesn’t even crank.
