BUILD THREAD 81 Buick/Olds Turbo Wagon 02/15/2024 More Parts!

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon build-up 56K beware! update 4/24/13

Finally ordered a new fuel pump, should be here in a few days. Actively working on raising funds for new body panels and materials. Hope to really make some progress starting in June.

Just a few pics, still raising money for my trip to Maryland to get another frame.

Fuel pump.

So, find a set if sedan Olds fenders locally on craigslist. On the way home after buying them, my old brown truck takes a sh*t. Don't know what is wrong yet, waiting as I type for a tow truck.

But, here are the fenders.

They look like nice fenders, Jim.
Finding them locally certainly beats having them shipped from out of state.
Sounds like it was a rough day for you with the truck. :?

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon build-up 56K beware! update 4/24/13

Yeah, they are in great shape. I'll have to get rid of all the trim pins. But they look good. Need another wheel well though as the buicks are different.

I hope the truck is nothing serious. I'll check it out Saturday.:x

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon build-up 56K beware! update 4/24/13

Finally got around to yanking out the gas tank to change the fuel pump.

I have to get some more heavy wire for the harness. The stock wires are on the right.

Here is the assembly.

I actually have to get a longer wire harness with the heavier 14ga wire. I forgot about the harness needing to be longer for the deeper wagon tank. It is only 3.50 from racetronix, but a 10'00 minimum order, and more for shipping. WTF.

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon build-up 56K beware! update 4/24/13

Looks like you're making some good progress Jim!
I saw your thread wondering about fenders but you were able to get your hands on some before I was able to chime in...
Marker lites are the only difference, and it looks like you saved yourself the work of shaving them by getting a later pair.
I've been tossing around the idea of swapping to a '78-'79 header for years now, as I'm not as fond of the later nose my car has... Just need to pull the trigger on yanking the parts... My yard of choice has an awesome stash of Cutlass wagons if you come across anything you can't find.
Hope your truck turns out to be something easy... I had to put ANOTHER fuel pump in my truck a few weeks ago... Next time I'm cutting a hole in the bed! lol
Keep up the good work!

Blake,
The fenders are in great shape for the age. Need some trim holes filled and the like, but no huge creases, dents or rot. I noticed there are some fillers that go between the bumper and the header panel, I don't have those. :| I plan on using a glass bumper, and could fab something up I guess. I may have to wait till I get the bumper? I will also need to get a PS inner wheel well also. The Buick wheel-wells are completely different. They are beefier, I wish I could use them. I like the 78-9 headers more also, weather is getting nice, you should swap it out!

As far as my Chevy Truck, Turned out to be the Ignition coil. Funny thing is, I did a tune up on Ol' Brownie (as it's known), and swapped out the old coil with a "newer" one. I fixed something that wasn't broke and it broke, lol. Simple enough fix, glad my USAA insurance had towing. \

I hear ya on the cutting the bed, lol. Some of the replacement pumps don't hold up as well as the original ones.

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon build-up 56K beware! update 5/20/13

I can definitely get whatever pieces you need... I plan on making a run in the next month or so.
It's about 2 hours away, so I usually only make it out there once or twice a season.
Hoping to get there before the grass gets too high lol...
