BUILD THREAD 86 GP 2+2~Blown 6.0

Good to hear on the tires being OK. I'll probably get another drag weekend & maybe one test out of them next spring. I'd rather not swap them if they still have life.

I also didn't touch the tune one bit. AFR was pretty solid in the 11-12.2 range with most of it being in the 11.3-11.7 so no issues there. I also ran low boost yesterday, I might need to dial in my fueling when I am on the party pulley, but low boos setting is good!

In other news, being on the internet all the time makes you think 10 second and faster LS cars are EVERYWHERE and EVERYONE knows about them, especially going on something like Drag Week or LS fest or a 'nationals' car show. My experience, at the track, that's not the case. A few people mentioned they were impressed I was able to drive in under my own power, knock off some low 12 high 11's in a 35 yr old car and change tires and go home. There was a smaller crew next to me of guys in their upper 50's/60's who were pretty surprised I was running as good as I did with an untouched engine. He asked if I had pistons or rods and I said nope, $200 stock 6.0, all the engine has is a set of valve springs and a cam.

I was too busy to watch any of the other cars but besides that LSA 5th gen camaro running high 10's and a few Elon-mobiles running 11's and that 5.0 mustang running low 10's despite the turnout being great there wasn't much really fast stuff.

A few other pictures-

The dude on the bike had a sweet bravada swapped S10 that he hauled his bike in. I've never seen one in person (always kinda wanted one). He even had the bravada tail lights & rear bumper.

$2.75ish e85, I can live with that!

Oh, P.S.
Swapping the front brake pads from the parts store specials that I got on the LS camaro calipers from the salvage yard to these ceramic ones was 100% worth it. Brake performance is the same but WOW it doesn't instantly turn the front wheels brown from dust.

If you go to the tire manufacturer's website, it should indicate how many 1/32s of an inch the bars indicate. This only tells you how far to the cords, My guess is they'll age/heat cycle out before they're bald.

If you don't spend an hour reviewing data from the track from every hour you spend at the track, you aren't me (haha)

I finally downloaded racerender and combined my gopro footage with my HPT logs.

What I found out is
1) I need to tighten my rear shocks up. Going to 10/10 in the front was good but the thing lifts (good) but it lifts too fast/hard. It's set to 3comp 7rebound and should probably be 7/11.
2) I had a 1/4 second of tire 'shimmy' in my 3rd pass with the 1.69 60ft, I had an inkling it did but it was so fast and so mild I didn't notice. I think it was the suspension maxing out and clawing for traction for a split second. More evidence to tighten the rear shocks
You can see the tire is a bit sideways of where it's normally at.

3) ALMOST mini wheelie on the 1-2 shift. Inside of the front left is for sure off the ground. Not the outside but inside yes.

1st - great video. I seen it on YT before I seen your post here (I'm a follower haha). Love the overlay of the gauges. I seen you spinning that beetch to high 6K and bounce onto 7K a couple of times - it made me smile.

2nd - Your comment above is a fact. I encounter the same here at T-N-T days. I've only been to the track 3 times this year, but by the 3rd time most everyone is watching because there is definitely not 20 cars running 7's and 8's like the interwebs indicates lol. Have seen of Tom Bailey's posts about Sick Week, he's making a push to have 100 cars that can run faster than 8.50. That's just what everyone needs to see - that way everyone that watches will think these cars are the norm.

3rd - I'll be loving the sub $3/gallon E. It's still $3.70 here.

4th - how air pressure were you running? Asking for a couple of reasons, but mostly because I just read (somewhere, I can't remember where), that one of the DnD events is going to require 20psi in drag radials.

Oh gosh, I'm flattered. I have followers 😛

Yeah I am spinning it up to 7k on shifts. I'm not sure if it picks up any power as I ran 116-118 mph instead of the 122 I ran last month when I was shifting at 6500 but bad DA and lower timing are more likely causes of the slower MPH. I would like to have a good A to B comparison of 6500 shift vs 7000. The fueling is there and it's not valve floating so I think we are OK.

Yeah all these youtube drag and drive events make people think these cars are the norm when there is probably less than 2500 sub 11.50 second drag and drive capable traditional hotrods in existence.

I was running 19 on the 1st 2 passes and 18 on the 3rd an 17 on the 4th. 20psi might be OK but I have no data there to know if it helps or hurts. Not sure what value that rule adds?

Some shifts sounded kinda long, like you were boinking the limiter quite a bit. You have a clutch switch and do the no lift thing, right? Have you logged shift times doing it that way vs a traditional lift and shift? I don't know how many pops I could get it on an upshift with my shift times, so this could be apples and oranges going strictly off of what I hear.

I can check shift times for sure. I don't think i'm overly slow but I have slow hand/eye coordination. I don't know off hand if i was hitting the limiter. I should probably set my shift light at 6700 or something so I have time to react.

I do have the 2 step turning on with a pressure switch in the clutch line. The last run is a waste because the 2 step was at 6400 and it was grumpy going into gear with the RPM not falling when I clutch-in.

I'm not sure how 'fast' i should be or what's reasonable to shift.

Forget the clutch and just lift your right foot and yank. Geesh, you act like you're the one that has to fix it when it breaks, and pay for it too

Tune up & get ready for drag weekend time.

Fuel filter changed
Oil & filter
Quick bolt check
Spark plug change
Pulled the passenger valve cover off to just look since it's been since 2017 since I've had a valve cover off. Yikes!

Looks good, thought about checking pushrod ends for the oval wear they get since this engine is kinda clattery but I've got bigger fish to fry and it's running fine so no biggy.

Man e85 leaves your plugs spotless! I have at least 2 years on these.
