So looking around it appears that general consensus is an extended tip TR6 style plug should be used only up to ~10-15 psi by some people and others say NEVER run a projected tip plug on boost. The projected tip can act like a glow-plug and auto ignite, the non projected tip plugs pull the strap in a bit and scrub the heat better through the head.

The extended tip is a bit more resilient to fouling out if you have crap ignition/fueling or running at cold startup temperatures. If the thing was a year round daily beater with 5-7 psi of boost, think a Tahoe/TBSS with a small M122 on 91 octane a TR6 seems like it's OK.

BUT, as mine is a summer only, is on E85 which is less prone to fouling the plug anyways, it's got relatively high IAT & boost, the extended tip is more of a risk than an asset, so yeah, time to look at a different plug.

I think my lazy 317 head & low compression helps. A TR6 would probably be fine and worth the risk if I was driving the car year-around more, but I don't see a BR7 being a risk at my level. There isn't any power gains switching from a BR to a TR, you trade off foul resiliency for safety, and foul resistance isn't something I care/need.

I used to get worked up worrying about the correct plug, but after watchin' some of the old Happel videos and seeing what he did with used 'whatever' plugs I don't think it's as much of a concern as I had made it out to be. I've heard of the extended tip being an issue with it acting as a glow plug, but I've never heard of that at low boost.

I'm an NGK believer though.

This has turned into 'use what works' situation for me. I'm yet to blow out a 7 heat range non-protruded plug at 30+ psi so that's what I'm sticking with for the moment. I'm curious what Chris' brother is using in his car as he is consistently over 30psi and whatever he is doing is working. But the caveat is that I don't believe he drives on the street much.

They run the same plugs as me, but are about to bump up to 8s. They run C16 and practically ZERO street miles. So much for a street car 😆

I've got over 2k miles on my set up and have used nothing but BR7s, between e55 and E90. Never missed a beat.

My Fiero electrical engineer buddy figured out how to put an AUX input in these old DIN delco radios and wanted to try it on an EQ radio, but they are hard to find. When he found out I had one I wasn't attached to he hatched a plan and found me a functional non EQ radio and I'm trading him my EQ core for him to try to fix and play around with.
If he could do a plug-n-play into the slave drive/aux receptacle in the rear like my '96 Camaro CD radio would be cool too. Could put the AUX input in place the cable for the MP3 player or cellphone won't get wrapped up with the floor shifter in three pedal cars.
