Wow! Very nice! I wish I had friends.
You do Zach....this place here man! I know alot of online forums and sites are full of nonsense, but I constantly rejoice over this forum! Yeah we get an asshat here and there that think it's like facepalm, but for the most part the people here are genuinely trying to help one another which is the way we were designed! I've forged some great friendships here as we all can!

So another mystery package was at my door today when I got home. After realizing it was from Donovan I thought "awful big box for a kick panel." Turned out to be WAY more than a kick panel....it was also a pair of mint euro grilles he picked up awhile back that both of has had forgot about, and an awesome extra gift!
It's a laser etched Lou City FC plaque that a customer of his made out of wood. The detail is amazing, and I can't wait to hang it up. The message on the back means alot as the legendary RKTPWRD has become a good friend along with others outside of this site. Thanks again D, I'll proudly mount this for all to see!View attachment 126608View attachment 126609View attachment 126610
Very classy Donovan!

Very classy Donovan!

Thank you, but I’m really just paying forward some of the generosity shown here by other members before me.
It’s my pleasure to contribute to his build, and the plaque was just because. Scott has been a great friend over the years since I’ve come to know him. He’s a real class act gents.

Been a decent few days. As most know I started the dash repair due to brittle cracking and such. The 3M bumper repair 2 part epoxy is legit for the job...shout out to Turna for sorta Guinea piggin it on his dash.
After several thin layers, block sanded with 80, I laid down another last night. I really was whooped, but Donovan helped motivate me to get it done a d I'm thankful for that. I let it cure until I got home earlier, then went to work again with 80, 180, and 220. It looks awesome in person, and I'll work on priming the area next. Here is a before/current to show the improvement....

Also, I got ahold of an upholstery shop to order the custom-ish rear seat material kit. It's paid for, the set is being made, but y'all gotta wait until I have it installed for pics. Going from tan cloth to black leather looking vinyl with a more modern style should compliment the interior.
Great job, Scott.
It certainly beats the baking soda repair method. 👍

What method will you use to try and duplicate the vinyl grain texture?

Thanks Jack, glad you asked. As of now here is the plan of attack. One of my pastors used to work for a mobile vinyl and upholstery repair company. He would use SEM chip guard on grain dash repairs. He would take a heat gun and warm the can (sounds wild and risky, I like it), then apply the product and "flash" it with the heat gun. This process basically "pops" the chip texture causing it to lay down and create the grain look.
I plan on testing it out before actually attempting on the dash, so stay tuned for the results.

Alright, quick update as I had another productive day. Got the kick panel Donovan donated all cleaned up and prepped as per the tedious norm of SEM's specs. Did the backside, let cure for an hour, then the frontside. It's curing in the garage now and looks so much better than the 3 piece ECM kick panel....

While I was at it, I masked off the gauge surround, wiped the repair area with wax and grease remover, then laid down several coats of SEM high build primer. I'm really happy how it turned out, and hopefully it blocks down as smooth as it looks..
