BUILD THREAD 87 Cutlass EFI build: 9/13/23..NEW STUFF!

Finally made it through all 233 pages.. Man what a journey! Cant wait to see that beautiful car with a spoolie boi on it.

Hopefully get to see the car and meet you this weekend!
Thanks man, geez I need to update this thread! Crappy news on the car show this weekend, found out earlier it's only for pre-1968 "traditional hot rods and customs" 😡

Since the thread is up, I might as well update it. In the past couple months I've been just driving it, but decided to go back to a stock gas tank setup. I had started gathering parts, then got thr fuel pump on the hanger and dropped into the GN tank. Then I painted the straps and cap to match the body as if anyone ever sees it.
I realized that I have to move my battery again as the mounting studs are in the way for the tank, so gonna move it to the spare tire well I guess.
Also, I've been having problems losing the center caps on my front wheels. At first I thought it was a brake issue, but after getting losing another new cap last weekend I looked into it more. Turns out the caps don't clip in very tight on the front wheels like they do on the rear wheels. Weird for sure, but after talking to American Racing they're supposed to send me another pair of caps. Hope I can get them to stay on as the wheels just don't look right without them.

You and i will be fighting the whole pump situation very soon together lol. Ive been digging and digging to figure out what pumps can fit in that tank on the hanger and can handle 800ish RWHP on E85. So far only thing i have found is someone put a pump in first, left hose long then dropped the hat in and then attached it and left it hanging in the tank which seams like a bad idea to me.

Another guy took a tanks inc tank and dropped 2 Walbro 465s in it and used the return as a feed and then Y'd them into a single line going to the front. He used the fuel level sender unit hat as the return by adding a bulkhead connector,

sucks about the car show!

Quick question guys, what battery tray are y'all using to put the battery in the spare tire well? I have a plastic tray, but it doesn't sit flush to the floor. I think it will be okay with some tubing spacers for support, just thought I'd ask.

I've got one of those plastic battery boxes bolted to the bottom of the spare tire well. I don't like how I did it though. Thinking I'm going to plasma off the bottom of the well, and weld a flat plate on then use j hooks and mount the battery to the plate. Its been on the to do list for awhile LOL

Scott, were you able to source factory tank mounts for the underside of your trunk floor?

If those new center caps don't look like they are going to stay on any better than the originals, I usually use a few dabs of clear silicone to help hold them on.

I also put a small perimeter bead of clear silicone around my sticky weights on my wheels too.

This is the stuff I use. DAP ultra clear

Good idea on the DAP. Jegs has the tank braces available, but the neighbor might have an eaiser solution, just have to wait for him to get back from vacation.

Not to steal his thread but Racetronix has a dual intank setup that can support that. Also I have seen the "Hellcat" 525 walbros get really close to those numbers on E.

I made a template out of cardboard, then cut a piece of MDF to fit. This was then bolted to a bracket in the wheel well. A Billet Specialties battery tray is attached to the MDF. I guess the old adage of "a picture is worth 1,000 word" holds true -- see below. 😉
