BUILD THREAD 87 Cutlass EFI build: 9/13/23..NEW STUFF!

That dowel sticking out of the gearbox doesn't look normal to me Scott. Mine isn't that way. I'd have to look at it closer to answer for sure but that doesn't look right to me.
I was thinking that too Jared. Could be a result of driving around for years with the fittings plugged and not looped. Knowing my luck it needs to come off and get rebuilt.

Well boys, it's been awhile since I've had time to work on the Cutlass. Work has been crazy, we've been redoing our finances, etc.
However, I was able to get a full day in today for a change. I was able to fight and get the door and roof rail weatherstripping installed. Honestly, I'm not happy at all with the Metro roof rail seals....they suck and look like crap!!!! I will be saving up for better quality seals down the road. We hard wired the window motors and got the glass all the way up, but now the doors won't shut all the way, 😡😡!!!!

I also got the grilles installed, along with the corner and parking lights. I didn't bring any other parts with me, but it was a good day! Here are a few pics of the progress!

I went back and read all 82 pages on this. Extremely impressed with the dedication and obvious ramp up in your learning curve as you honed some of your plastic polishing skills. Albeit I lean toward more purist views with Olds cars with Olds engines, it appears to me the attention to detail makes this project have a deeper meaning and an example of hot rodding done well. Owning the car for that long and still loving it enough to do it justice- it's going to be a very sweet ride when it's kind of done (they're never done).

Good luck and I look forward (hell we all do) to further progress. Great job and looking sharp!

Thanks for the kind words man. This car has given me fits over the years, and I had recently been completely burned out and lacked interest in even touching it. Not having it at my house doesn't help with motivation, but that should change soon.
I wanted to build a BBO years ago, but it was cost prohibitive compared to the SBC, and LS as well.
The theme when done should give off the look of a slightly modified from stock appearance. I don't want it super radical, or just a stock rebuild, more of a happy medium between the two. The super metallic paint is far from stock, but as you said that's part of hot rodding in making it one's own. If I ever buy an A body Cutlass(70 or 71) it would be a stock resto.

Thanks again for reading through the thread, I'm hoping to get some more progress done soon, especially when I bring it home. With my busy work schedule it'll be easier to work on it while parked out back than driving to my sister's house.

Great build! … and great posts!

Regarding the "better quality seals" -- any particular brand you're referring to? I too find that doors need much more "persuasion" to properly close with aftermarket seals.

Keep up the great work! Good luck!
