Best method for cleaning heads?

I don't think I'm going to use gas. I think I'll use diesel on my short block in a weed sprayer but not gas on my heads

I know brake cleaner works good for darn near everything.

offtopic..... but the brake clean is also great to kill grass where you don't want it to grow .....🙂

Funny you said that steve! I had to change the valve cover gaskets on my mazda monday....was using brake clean to quickly get the muck off. Came back where i was at and noticed some dead grass!

Another vote for Purple Power . I bought the big jug , and let the heads soak in my wheel barrow for 2 days , the brake cleaner . Real easy clean up

If you want cheap, plain old blue dawn dish soap is great at breaking down old grease and such. Squirt it on straight, let it sit a minute or two (or dont) and rub it with a brush. Wont pit/corrode the metal, doesn't leave a film, not bad on the hands, and keeps you from getting dirty in the process. The broken down blackened water washes right off you because the greasy oil has already been broken down.

You wont get a contact high from the fumes, although, whether that's a plus or minus I suppose is more of a personal choice

That's awesome! I like hearing all these old stories. I'm actually good friends with ldr on here we live in the same town and he's been Buddy's with my dad since before I was around. He's been a big help to me. When I put my 5.3 in I want ac. Are you putting ac in with yours? I want to know if the compressor will clear the k member and how to convert the factory lines to work with it.

Im planning on keeping the AC for my swap as well. I havent done it yet but this is what I have found through my research. There are 2 ways to make it work either notch the frame or they sell systems that move the compressor to the top. There are a set of mounts out there that others have claimed that the low mount Ac compressor will clear using them but they cause other issues. 1) Is the issue that the coils barley clear the ACbox and those mounts dont lower the motor and 2) is the driveline angle.

I have had bad experience in the form of 2 blown th350s due to bad driveline angle When I was young and didnt know any better. I dropped a 350/th350 in a 70 Nova. finally after 2 transmissions and countless abuse of how I beat on the car too much (which was true) I brought it to the right guy and found the motor wasnt sitting right, He realigned it and I never went through another trans. It puts extra pressure on the tail shaft which transfers through the trans.
My solution I went with the Holley mounts and Pan. Trust me I hemmed and Hawed about it for along time. Multiple posts and questions about it I posted because its just about double of some of the options. But driveline is important. For now Im planning to notch the frame and keep the low mount set up, The high mount works but if I can avoid it, it clutters the engine bay is my main reason but on another note its cheaper to notch if you know what your doing than to buy another bracket set up.
