Car Show Rant

10 pages of mostly negative opinions.... I'm the 100th response. You don't get that much response when people ask for help, or need advice on this site. A forum member said he would not even post here anymore because of the way some were acting/posting in this thread. Chris should consider closing this thread...it's useless.

This is the best forum for asking for help and/or advise. Just because most of us have the same opinion about car shows you think this thread should be shut down cause it doesn't conform to the way you view car shows?

It just shows that the "one" successful car show guy should rule the forum. So typical of today's society- I'm offended, make it stop.
I commend your 5x+ wins; good for you. I'm sorry if you don't see the legitimacy of our gripes because I'm not alone in this opinion.
So, close the thread if it makes you happy, but the car culture is in change mode. Not many people like hanging around all day for a chance at a piece of gold plastic.

Usually we can solve people's G-body car issues in 10 posts or less. Before they go off on tangents, of course.

But when you get a chance to vent in this place???? Lord have mercy, stand back. If you can't BS about stuff, why not?

I don't view it as negativity. But well, the title does have the word "rant" in it, so there's that. (Something about English that some people don't get apparently?) Like I've said, no car show is perfect. Either you're dealing with bugs, or having to keep an eye on that snotty-nosed little kid with the ice cream all over his hands in case he gets too close to the car, because his parents damn well ain't paying him any attention, or being parked under that power line by the staff in your designated parking spot and you start seeing birds congregating on it....and so on and so forth.

Might as well join the fray!

I despise the new Mustang/Camaro/Challenger crowd at shows where people have spent blood, sweat, and tears building a car only to have the new, shiny car win people's choice. I get it, you are proud of your car but I don't have to like it or care, my prerogative.

I went to a show today, a 72 and under show, I was 50/50 on what I saw. Several Rat Rods(not my style), several "classical" builds(all in), several "classical" but with LS swaps(WHY????), several classic builds but with bags, lots of high quality rods, lots of "I can't believe someone drove that on the street" builds. But whatever, everyone looked like they were having fun doing whatever they wanted and I walked around judging what I did and didn't like and even if I didn't like it I still admired the work that went into it. I have a pic of a twin turbo LS in a Chevy Apache SWB, hated the truck, dumped on the ground with air, bare metal finish, okay finish work, but under the hood was awesome, well thought out and clean, buddy asked about the truck and I didn't even care to take a pic of that.

What I did enjoy about that show? There were a ton of automobile enthusiasts there, clubs there(a bunch), and families there. That was the best part of the show and something you don't see as much.

Oh yeah, about that engine

TC1959 (Paul) goes to car shows and he posts some nice pictures of cars along with his gorgeous El Camino. I think most of the shows are coming up during the "cooler" part of the year but I know Paul has had a few medical problems so I hope he and his wife are up to a few shows this coming season. Personally I like cars like Paul's that are driven for pleasure and not just kept for shows. As far as trophies go I enjoyed this kind of trophy, it was one our many wins in the Luca Oil Sportsman series..

Uh .... this is the General Discussion section. It's exactly for threads that aren't necessarily useful. So I'd say 100 responses (and counting) show it's apparently fairly useful .... as General Discussion.

Apparently you guys can only focus on the negative .. You guys wanna keep taking jabs at me?? Go right ahead. There is no doubt that this is the best forum for help, and advice... Probably the best on the internet. That's why I joined, and continue to be active here. That's why I also believe that negativity has no place on this forum... especially 10 pages worth. You guys should focus all this negativity your sharing here, and turn that into something positive, like giving good advice to a new GBody owner/ member. There's someone posting right now that could use your advice, instead this thread continues to be at the top of the Latest Post / Recent Activity list.
You said the car culture is changing... and there is no doubt that it is, so get used to it. New Challengers, Chargers, Mustangs, and Camaros are at every show I attend, they are at every Cruise Night I attend. Imports are there, and will be every time. This is a Global Market... We chose to buy these old cars and turn them into better looking, better performing, better handling, and better sounding hot rods. Some choose to buy something newer that had all that from the factory. Does that mean they don't belong?? Some chose the car they are driving due to their income level.. maybe they couldn't afford the 60's / 70's muscle car they always dream of owning some day. So they chose to fix up their Honda. I applaud ALL types of cars.. new, old, foreign, domestic, exotic, etc. I love to see what YOU did to YOUR car, what kind of creativity went into the design, fabrication, and application. If you guys want to act like dicks, go right ahead. This thread has nothing to do with me, my car, or my success. Since YOU say that most of you have the same opinion about car shows, it's because your cars don't belong there. Stick to cruise nights where your cars are more acceptable, and you can leave in an hour. When people delegitimize awards, it's been my experience that they are just jealous.
I like to hang out all day with the good people I meet at these cars shows / cruise nights. They have done more for me than some of my "Best Friends" ever have. You should sit down sometime and make a new friend. You never know what they might be able to do for you, or what you might be able to do for them. Either way, it's bound to make you feel better. I am positive that MOST of the forum members here, have never even met another forum member. Not me, I have 2 members I met from this forum that I go to shows & cruise nights with. Two of the best people you could ever meet. Guess what?? we share the same passion for cars... period.
So you 2 guys who I thought were my friends on this forum, please do not post on my threads anymore...Get it .. got it.. good! Gotta go, I'm late for the Cruise Night.

Ummm really. I think you should go back to the Menu, and look at the section right below this one....

I'm not taking jabs at you, it's only opinions about car shows and like someone mentioned the title includes Rant and no one has been disrespectful. One the other hand it appears you think because I don't like car shows that I am a dick and can't comment on your posts any longer. I do not consider someone winning a trophy for how their car looks is a success but then again I think beauty pageants are a waste of time as well. Cars are made to be driven not adored.
