I have a set of 862s as backup if my 823s dont work well boosted. The 862/706 head is the highest power making stock head for Gen 3 6.0s. Dont let the smaller intake fool you.
317 is the 6.0 head. They have bigger chambers as well as larger valves so they flow better. The 862 will increase the compression ratio on the 6 liter/litre but isn't ideal in a boosted application. I bet the combination of higher compression and increased port velocity due to the smaller port and valve would be beneficial for a naturally aspirated setup. Honestly I've never thought about that. Seems like it would be a sweet combo🤔

Really slow. Mostly cleaning right now. Heads are done but harness isn't. REALLY needing my donor truck to sell to finance the rest of my parts. Got a lot of parts laying in the garage already. I asked the guy at the machine shop if he knew anyone looking for a SBC/TH350 and it turns out one of his machinists father has a square body he is putting together aaaannnnnd he wants a SBC for it. Can't sell it yet but it's nice to think I may have a buyer already. Hopefully 2 more weeks and I can pull the 355.

Last nite and this morning I did a tally of expenditures (already purchased and pending) and I'm right about where I thought I would be @ app $5400. Still have to purchase some lines for the trans, drive shaft, radiator hoses, gauges, fluids, tune up, paint for trans & engine & engine bay. I'm actually ashamed at how dirty & oily my SS has gotten. All the crud on the car has accumulated since I've owned it. I'm going to get it back to the condition I bought it in once the engine and trans are out.

More cleaning. Got phase 1 done on the valve covers, degreased. Will finish cleaning them tomorrow along with the truck accessories & brackets.

Bought a harmonic balancer removal tool and a Chinese 92 mm throttle body. I still would like to get the FITECH 750 HP intake but not being able to sell the truck yet has hurt financially. Alot of people look at it but don't pull the trigger.

Picked my heads up today along with the head gaskets and ARP head bolts. Tuesday or Wednesday I'm going to pull the old cam, install the Summit cam and reassemble the heads. Found a set of bucket seats, rear seat, floor shifter column in an 84 MCSS for $400 about an hour away. Going to look at them Wednesday.

Was pulling the cam last night and it would only come out a few inches. Center bearing seized to the camshaft. Taking it to the machine shop in the morning. Pulling old bearings inspection and cleaning then install new bearings for < $100.

I've had a bit of trouble with cam bearings in LS engines. Hopefully the block is good.
Shoot. Me too. Nobody close by with a line bore machine so I'd be looking for a new block.
