I've had a few Gbody's with t-tops before I bought my Monte that has a power sunroof. 3 of my current cars have power sunroofs and I am hoping I can somehow get one for my Regal.
I like t-top cars for the "cool factor" but I also really like the convenience of a self contained power sunroof that opens and closes at the touch of a button and not having to carry t-tops in the trunk is a bonus.
I have had one in my daily drivers (02' Regal GS and 07'TBSS) since I got the Regal in 2012 and enjoy using mine. My wife uses hers in her Celica quite a bit too. Any reason for open windows/air if not at freeway speeds I'm all for. Of course being in WI almost half the year they are useless but on the other hand on those nice days that pop up here in there in late fall or early spring, it feels extra nice to open it up. I did have to do a repair on the Regal's once, one bracket somehow broke, was a bit of a PITA to repair.
Never owned a car with one myself, have driven a few rentalx with them. However, I know of a real life roadrage story where a angry guy tried to climb in through the sunroof to attack the driver. So they are a liability too.
I've always felt sunroofs were more of a "chick" thing. They can get fresh air in the car without messing up their hair too much. My wife loved hers in her car she had when we first got married. Then she got her van when the Two Terrors came along and it didn't have one. She missed it. She got a newer van with a sunroof. She uses it all the time. The few times I'm stuck driving the thing, I never do. My mom refuses to buy a car without one.
When I was shopping for my 88 T-Bird back in the early 90s, I could have had one. My good friend at the time had the same car with one. I practically had to lay down in the car to drive it because the sunroof assembly took up a ton of headroom. I made sure to buy a car without one.
Had several 73-75 Grand Am's with the sunroof...those and vinyl tops only accelerated the rust and rot🤣 You want to look up and see the sky then get a convertible...
Man or Woman...
Convertibles are NOT available in trucks, or SUV's. ( don't even start with the Shelby Dakota, lol )
Convertibles are noisy.
Convertibles are a pain to maintain.
Convertibles promote "criminal activity"
This Man will be installing one into (1) of the GBody's I have, eventually...
Keep the seals lubricated, and the drains clean, and they won't give you too much trouble. Yep, I'm a fan!
