I went with the moroso kit. It looks like the Lightest springs are all in at 3500. Mediums arent in till 4000 according to the instructions. The kit gives 23 degrees of advance so i should be able to run a little higher initial but at least according to the instructions it is not too far off from stock even with the lightest springs ….

The all in number is dependent on the weights in your distributor. All of the weights are not the same. Pretty much have to do some trial and error testing with your distributor. The same goes with the amount of vacuum advance - it takes some time and patience. A chassis dyno is a great place to dial this in.

Thanks for the reply. I think (pretty sure) the kit only comes with the one set of weights. For a street vehicle i think it will be fine tho. I think i will avoid the dyno only cause i dont wanna wring it out over and again. Its actually running really good right now.

Use your weights with the springs that came with the kit install the lightest spring and see what it does. Those stamped steel weights in the budget kits are no where near the quality of the factory weights.

Thanks for the response. I had heard this but decided to use the weights with the kit. The distributor is an accel oem replacement (got it new for $30) so its not a GM original. So with the kit weights and lightest springs i am at 36* @ 3000 rpm all in, and ~13* base.
So the instructions were spot on about total advance but off ~500 rpm on the springs (instructions claimed all in at 3500) but that is fine by me. I am now wondering if more advance would be beneficial or if i should leave it alone. On one hand I am not trying to squeeze every last drop out of it but on the other hand i dont want to leave much on the table either. When i first fired it after the recurve i checked the initial (vac can un plugged) and she was just singing at 16*. But i did not dare blip it above 1500-2000…. 🤔 Running a pretty huge cam 230/236 (@.050) and .510/.520 lift w. 110 lsa on an otherwise stock 10.4:1 96
Lt1
Nvm i went ahead and just did it. Took some experimenting. I ended up with 36 all in at 2400 rpm which put me at a base of 18 degrees. It pinged on the road so i went to the next step up “medium” springs but didnt have full mechanical advance till 4500+ so i said at that point i was better off with my setting before the limiter screw which was 36 all in at 3000 rpm which puts me at a base of 13 degrees. I cant detect a ping so it must be fine.
