Here you go. 455HP, a smooth idle, reasonable fuel mileage, and legal in California. Chevrolet performance E rod package. I know it breaks your $6,500 budget but you can thank the liberal tree hugger's and the people of your state that voted for for them. Turbo LS would be the most cost effective.

All well and good until the Smog Nazis realize you modified the manifolds/cats to fit in your car. Cheaper to move to a new State.

Other issue is reinforcing your car to handle 450-500hp. Stock G bodies begin to twist apart around 350-400 hp in mint condition. Not to mention brake upgrades to stop that much power.

A Vortec SBC can easily reach 400-450 hp in n/a form.

Agreed. A 380-400hp Vortec would be a lot of reliable fun in a driver and leave plenty of budget for exhaust, brakes, rearend, and transmission upgrades. Plus, it's a bolt-in.

Thank you all for the replies. My budget for reinforcing the car has somewhat been calculated. It is definitely a concern on upgrading the entire car to make it handle such power. I will say that I do like the idea of the Vortec sbc due to it being much more cost effective and the idea of just pulling an ls3/ crate engine. I guess it is back to the money calculations and searching up offerup/ebay to reassess how much money I can put in the car with the 1.5x rule. Again, thank you all for the help, it is greatly appreciated, especially for someone new like me.

Edit: And LA traffic for me isn't as bad as you guys make it seem :ROFLMAO:. I go out in the day and work a graveyard shift, not sure if that's a thing to brag about though .

Your post gave me inspiration and I found this https://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet-Performance/809/19370415/10002/-1 so if I ever do decide to break the budget, and want to go the legal route :blam:, this may not be "too" bad of an option, besides the price...

As pontiacgp asked why do you want 500 HP. If it's just because I'm alright with that but is there a specific need.
