can I fix this or do I need a new upper hinge? anyone have one for sale?
This isnt an expensive fix at all, I just rebuilt all 4 of my hinges for a grand total of like 25 bucks. You can get the replacement pins with a set of regular and a set of oversized bushings for 5 and change at autozone in there HELP section. The roller is a different story I ended up using one for a c/k pickup as I couldnt find one for a g-body allthough I didnt look very hard.Anyway the roller for pickups has the same dimensons save for being about 1-2" longer which I drilled the top of the hinge body the same dia.,cut off the excess and staked it,g2g.Now granted I have the doors removed which makes it nice because you can stick the hinge in a vise.

thanks, yeah I already put new pins in the pass side door, my pops thought he new what he was doing, ended up with a lil chunk of my dash getting chipped off, and a lil ding from a hammer blow we did it with the door on and the fender on...I lucked out and seen my parts car's upper hinge is in good shape...seems to have been swapped already, the hinge is diff color than the car I plan to take my doors off to fix the rust on the bottoms of the doors before I paint, so I'll address that prob then

in other news....I won a Hurst/Olds scoop off ebay the other day, sweet! I was outbid 2 other times but glad I was this one is mint and complete with the rail in the center...still looking for a hood it's proven to be a hard search, I've looked at 4 hoods already, none of them meet my standards am I being too picky? most of em will just require too much bodywork, I'm not looking for a perfecet hood, but one that don't require too much work, my hood woulda been great, if I haven't cut that hole out for the scoop :blam: but it does have a lil rot a couple rust holes...keep coming up empty handed

just got my Hurst/Olds scoop in today, gonna try to get it put on 2morrow, will post pics if I get to it, it's in mint shape, even came with the rail for the hood to match the smooth one on the scoop, didn't know it had that piece coming 🙂 It'll cover the hole in my hood, I guess that'll do for now

so i stayed after work and got the scoop installed...went fairly smoothly, I already had my game plan so i was on it

Hscoop.jpg

made my cardboard template

Hscoop3.jpg

no broken mounting studs, scoop was in great shape

Hscoop4.jpg

minimal bodywork, the usual scratches but overall well worth what I spent on it

Hscoop7.jpg

the rear mounting studs ended up behind the bracing, just used a step bit and tin snips to make it accessible, will clean it up with a dremel before I paint it tho so it looks cleaner

Hscoop6.jpg

same on this side...what is that blob GM used under the hoods? is it some kind of panel weld?

Hscoop2.jpg

drilled that panel out, the scoop covers the hole up

Hscoop5.jpg

temporaraly installed, I love the look of it...next I need strip my hood and body work it, and I'm not gonna mold the scoop on, just gonna but some foam weatherstripping around in on the inside when i'm ready for final installation

lookin good. that scoops gonna look nice when ya get it molded.

nice! If you open the back of that scoop you could possibly get a little "cowl induction" action lol.

When you had the hilborn scoop, how did you know where to cut the hole? I know it sounds like a dumb question because the answer will probably be measure. And what intake do you have? I'm thinking about running the short hilborn on my cutlass. Just tryin to get the info.

Doober, you are correct.

Looks sweet!

You were lucky with the size of that hole in the hood... looks like the scoop is the perfect size to cover it!
