It was cloudy today so I borrowed my parents car and drove 60-70 miles to a salvage with a stash of G bodys. I had not been there in a few years but there was a nice selection. I ended up finding two aeros but both 4 doors. I did score a nice pair of a pillar drip mouldings off two different 2 door Grand Lemans'. There was a 4 door Brougham there that was nice and the trunk light assembly looked brand new so it got removed. Also got a Cutlass metal fan shroud plate in case I decide to go with electric fans.

Wanted to note a couple things for the VERY few others that may restore one of these aeros in the future. I bought 2 sets of outer window sweeps for a Malibu. The sweeps with the big stainless bead has three 4" half round pieces riveted to them. I barely got the window in and then it was nearly impossible to put on the adjustable felt tabs on the top of the door. After assembly, the window was very hard to roll up and down. I found my old sweeps in my attic and they did not have the riveted half round strips. I removed them and its rolling up and down great now. The extra ones for the rear quarter windows must be cut down to length, the half round strips removed as well, and the lower rolled bead has to be cut off or the bottom of the quarter glass will not sit against the body. Also, be VERY careful with your bottom rear window trim clips. I NEVER found new ones anywhere on the net or my GM dealer. I ended up getting another set from a 4 door aero just to have enough. They are very brittle. I lubed the rivet heads before carefully tapping them back on.

CRAAAAAP!!!! I got my gas tank out of my shed and removed the sending unit to find about a quart of old brown runny gas goop inside. When I removed it the first time last summer it was clean inside. I think it was the extreme heat inside my shed during the day then cooling off at night killed that ethanol fuel. I flushed it out then poured in muratic acid. Sloshed that around then flushed again with water several times. The leftover water got a round with the shop vac. I then poured a little weed eater gas in it and sloshed that around. I have my sending unit in evapo rust. That stuff wont hurt the electrical stuff and clean it to look brand new.

Did not want to scratch up my lug wrench after restoring it. I bought rubber light pole mounts for boats and mounted them behind the donut spare. No rattles or scratches and simple to remove.

Got some transparent 14 ga dark blue speaker wire last year at my local Walmart. Went tonight and they had a light blue so I grabbed it too. Now I can use dark blue and light blue to distinguish for left and right. Also found a convertor for RCA's. I've got a small JVC amp I want to run to my 6x9 Kenwoods and the factory radio does not have RCA outputs. I installed my JVC cd changer under the package tray. Was not sure if it would work with my stock radio so I set up everything on the bench with a battery and it worked. I would like to know if someone sells the cardboard/jute speaker covers that go under the rear package tray to cover the 6x9s like the factory did. My Kenwood 6x9s have huge magnets and crossovers so the covers would have to be pretty large. Might try to make my own later to give it a better sound quality. Maybe I should go to my local u-pull yard and look for something. Anyone got any ideas?

After cleaning all the old stripping and seals from my passengers side roof rail seal channel, it got painted back satin black. I dollied in the high spots in the channel from the screws. I got some gray 1/8 inch camper top seal from Lowes and stuck it to the top of the channel where it screws to the roof, a, and b pillar. After screwing it down, it compressed it nicely. Now I got a good seal that's not goopy.

Very cool, moving right along! You be done in no time.

Got ready to install my gas tank and decided to check my sender with my multimeter. Sure enough, no good. Took off the cover to the slide contact and cleaned it. The main power wire looked corroded at the terminal. Tried removing the push nut and it broke. I cleaned the contacts and bought an assortment of push clips on the Dorman (Help) isle. One was the perfect size. Checked it again with the meter and its working great. Got out my new 3/8 and 5/16 fuel hose that I had them cut off the rolls and they don't say fuel hose on them. Called and talked to the manager and he said it should say fuel hose on it. Now I have to go back and exchange it. This is the crap that wears you out rebuilding an old car but I still love it!
