I got all the crap for the head gasket replacement ordered from Summit. I also went ahead and bought a set of ARP head bolts so they will match all the other ARP bolts on the engine. Still makes me sick thinking about unbolting stuff from that beautifully painted engine.

I was going to try to finish early for a show at the end of this month to meet up with GP403 but it's looking like a no go. The head gasket swapping is what will kill me. I've restored a lot of cars but this one has been the biggest battle. I won't be whooped though. I got too used to 50s cars where everything is steel. Plastic sucks. I'm still going to try to make it but the big show that it has to be done by is at the end of September. My arthritis in my lower back has been really bad this week and it's kinda slowing me down. Heck, right now my right hand is puffed up like a bee sting and can't make a fist. The arthritis ache is irritating. Good thing I type with one finger. Never learned how to type correctly with both hands. Lol. A couple of the guys at my work make fun of me sometimes but they are in their 20s. They may get to find out how crappy life can be with this stuff when they get older. I had to ask one of them today to clamp some vise grips for me and he looked at me like I was crazy.

HAFROD, I understand what you're saying about aches & pains as you get older. I think I'm in better shape than you, but I've had to learn how to work smarter over the past few years. Brute strength and ignorance just doesn't cut it anymore. I hope that you're feeling better soon. I'm looking forward to seeing both the Salon and the Elky done.

So I bought a quart of SEM trim black to shoot my inner fenders and fan shroud. The can says reducing with SR or SRX recommended. I go to Summit to get the reducer but its not listed. I go to SEM website and it says DISCONTINUED. That's really great. Can I shoot it straight out of the can? It sounds thick by shaking it. I sent them an email but doubt I hear anything till next week.

Have you looked for the MSDS for either reducer online? I think it will tell you what is in it. You may be able to use something pedestrian like acetone to cut it.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the inner fenders turn out.

Man, what a kick in the nuts. I started draining the coolant and noticed it was looking black before it got green. Then rust scale clumps started coming out. When I removed the upper radiator hose from the water neck was when I got a scary view. You could not even see the thermostat for the caked on crud. When I got this engine someone had only ran water in it and the coolant passages were crusty. I had stuck a power washer nozzle in every orifice before I took it to the machine shop for a hot wash and cam bearings. I guess some of the stuff came loose after running it. The radiator is plugged too. Debating removing engine and total tear down. Then a different machine shop that hopefully has a vat. I flushed it with a garden hose but I know the crap will still be in there

dang. just, dang. 😱
